ScanLife Barcode & QR Reader – a must-have app!

ScanLife Barcode & QR Reader is a handy tool that lets you scan barcodes and QR codes with your Android device. Utilizing your camera function, the app reads the code in front of it and then presents the relevant information. It’s simple to use and has a really nice UI.

Pros & Cons:
Pros
- Mesmerically simple to use with accurate scanning!
- Great user interface!
- Scan QR, Datamatrix, EZcode and UPC codes easily!
- Link to Amazon reviews, etc!
- Pleasing recognition sound!
- Very, very fast!
Cons
- I’ve found it occasionally gets the scan wrong or won’t recognize it. This has always been remedied by scanning again however, it’s almost as if the app is trying to go too fast and not scanning something properly the first time.
Features:
Barcodes are all around us. If you bought a product in a modern store, it will almost certainly have a barcode of some kind. Additionally, more and more tech-savvy companies are allowing interested parties access to additional content via the use of QR codes. These can be found in magazines, advertising hoardings and elsewhere. A small square can actually provide a unique link to all kinds of extra online content such as videos, galleries and more. It’s fast, convenient and a growing medium for interactions between parties.
Tip: for the romantic geek wanting to use QR codes, create a message for a loved one and embed it in a QR code. Print, then stick it in that Valentines card for romance 21st century style!
This has been the introduction of a dedicated app which help you scan such codes. We recently reviewed the sterling Scan Inc. application and another is this, ScanLife Barcode & QR Reader. ScanLife Barcode & QR Reader is an app that straight away works very hard for you. You are first presented with a kind of dashboard interface which gives you a choice of destinations. You can browse through scans you have previously made in My Scans. Live Feed presents an interesting Instagram style feed of items scanned by users worldwide. QR Code lets you create your very own contact information card into the QR format! Settings, of course, lets you make different adjustments to the app, such as sound effects and the scanner theme. Needless to say, Scan lets you scan an actual code!
Despite being as objective as I can with ScanLife Barcode & QR Reader, there’s just very little wrong with it and I found the app to be pretty much one of the most complete applications available in the Google Play Store. It’s incredibly fast and, although I think this occasionally results in the app not reading the code correctly on the first go, it will always read it perfectly on the second try. I especially like the way you can change the theme of the scanner target and can choose between clear, classic, top gun, disco purple, old film and vibration.

Usefulness:
For interacting with these codes that really are all around you, the app is superb. I personally like to visit book shops and scan everything I’m interested in. These are all saved and I can see if I can find better prices elsewhere. There are umpteen uses for it so it’s an incredibly useful app to have.
Ease of Use:
The dashboard interface couldn’t make it easier. Just click on scan and the camera will open and start looking for codes to scan. The app is very responsive- so much so I found it difficult to take screenshots of the scanning in action because it so quickly identified the product (Hence, dear reader, the slightly blurry shots above!)
Frequently Used:
This depends on you. I personally use it occasionally due to something I’m interested in or if I’m on a shopping trip of some kind and want to compare prices.
Interface:
The interface is very polished and looks great to use. The themes looks awesome and let you personalize your experience that little bit more.
