Features:
Have you heard of SanDisk? If you haven’t, have a look, you might just find your phone’s memory card was manufactured by them. The extremely popular memory card supplier have now launched a superb Android application that lets you manage your files more effectively.
So maybe you have a File Manager app which lets you have a look at what’s on your SD card and phone memory. SanDisk Memory Zone takes this a leap further by integrating cloud storage services into this functionality; so you can view files stored in spaces such as Dropbox or Google Docs. With more and more users utilizing cloud-based storage locations, this app just makes perfect sense.
The app genuinely allows for superb file management. It lets you easily transfer files between locations, as easy as switching an app to your SD card. Perhaps you have a wealth of photos you want to dump somewhere, this will let you wirelessly transfer these to the cloud. If you need to make space on your device, it’s simple to move these online, in addition to having a cool hub to view your files from. With a general progression towards moving more files online rather than on native devices such as tablets, hard drives and phones, this seems like a logical step forward. It makes it feel like the files are available and not in some far-away location and at the same time freeing up space on your device.
It works incredibly well and the app feels incredibly intuitive. The UI is smooth, bright and easy to navigate. There are even simple shortcuts on every page enabling you to flick between different locations quickly. Another helpful feature allows you to sign up to cloud services within the app. While I an a frequent Dropbox user, I hadn’t tried ‘Box’- which allows you up to 5GB of storage for free- yes please! SanDisk Memory Zone let me sign up to their services, access that spacious 5GB and transfer files to it, all within the luxury of the app itself. Just awesome.
The app also lets you back up your files in any of these locations. As a test I opted to back up my contacts into my shiny new Box account. I did find it took quite a while to prepare the back up, which was a little disappointing as the files are relatively small- but at the same time you can schedule back ups through the app on a regular basis if you wish.
One last thing worth mentioning is that you can password protect files too. This too is very simple and creates for far more secure storage, especially if certain files are sensitive or private.

Usefulness:
As we move towards storing more and more data online rather than on our devices, this kind of app is going to become absolutely essential. SanDisk is a large and trusted brand and the simple yet powerful management tools available in the app are superb. I use Google Docs, Dropbox and (now) Box storage- that’s 8GB of extra storage for free. While I could easily access the apps individually to access and move files, SanDisk Memory Zone lets me do this from one place intuitively and easily.
Ease of Use:
Although back ups can take a while (longer than it strictly should) the app is functional and incredibly simple to use and navigate. One stand-out feature here is the ability to switch between storage spaces via a drop down shortcut.
Frequently Used:
If you have to manage a lot of files on your phone, this is an essential app that you would easily use on a daily basis. While you might just use it for back ups, storing photos or music- it is at least flexible- it is such a quality app that it’s well worth adopting as a primary storage management solution.
Interface:
Good apps, no matter how functional, can choke badly with an ill-thought out interface. SanDisk however have made the UI incredibly user-friendly and intuitive. It’s a joy to use and play with. Accessing your files and data is simple and fast, even transferring a large number of files to random online sources is amazingly straight-forward.
