Samsung’s Near Field Communications Chip has Flash Memory for Next Level Smartphones

Samsung’s new near field communications (NFC) chip has on-board Flash memory, the benefit of which allows developers to easily to upgrade the chip’s software or firmware. This is in addition to the cool stuff NFC chips can do such as turning your phone into an e-wallet to allow you to buy products by waving your phone at a receiving terminal or paying for public transit with your phone and more. Some of the other techno advances the chip has is lower power consumer and even works without the phones battery.

…and now for some stats…

According to market research firm, IMS Research, the mobile phone market is forecast to grow from 1.4 billon units in 2011 to 1.8 billion units in 2015 at a compound annual growth rate of seven percent. In 2011, NFC-enabled phone models are expected to gain pace and the ratio of mobile phones with NFC capabilities is expected to reach 26 percent in 2015. Samsung’s new NFC chip is scheduled for mass production in the first quarter of 2011.

I won’t trust Samsung again. I had the Captivate for 27 days and never getting the gps to work consistently. That was back in July. From what I read, it’s still not working correctly.
