Samsung TecTiles: expanding NFC touch-to-share technology to the masses

Samsung has aspirations of bringing NFC technology, a touch to share data between devices standard, to mass consumers via user programmable Samsung TecTiles NFC chips available online and at four major U.S. carriers; plus an app of the same name on the Google Play store. By educating businesses and consumers on the many possibilities it offers; Samsung says “consumers are able to automate everyday functions of a smartphone including sending a ‘headed/at home’ text message, silencing the phone when entering a meeting, setting an alarm, and dimming the display when going to bed.” They even show use cases of how businesses can use them to allow customers to tap to check-in to Foursqaure and Facebook, or apply to rewards programs with exclusive content and discounts.

This kind of thing will be one of Apple’s “innovative” features of iOS7.

Using NFC tags, the Galaxy S III can quickly and easily run apps, change settings, or perform a plethora of other actions with a simple tap. If you’ve heard of an app called Tasker, it essentially performs the same process but with location based functionality.
