Samsung Galaxy Tab

We’ve know about it for some time but today Verizon officially announces their first mobile tablet, the Samsung Galaxy Tab, will launch on their wireless network in the coming weeks. In fact, Samsung will launch the tablet for all four major U.S. carriers. The tablet has an enhanced TFT display at 7 inches, not the beautiful and brilliant Super AMOLED display that we hoped for, running Android 2.2 (Froyo) so it supports Adobe Flash in the web browser and corporate email among other features, front and rear facing camera and camcorders, Samsung 1GHz Cortex A8 Hummingbird processor, 1024 x 600 pixel resolution, 2 GB internal memory with 16 GB pre-installed microSD card expandable to 32 GB.

Just a heads up to Antonio, the Galaxy Tab does not have a Super AMOLED display. It says so in the press release below in your article. I’m sure the TFT-LCD will be a good screen, but not SAMOLED. Might want to fix that.

And now I’m confused. The specs above don’t mention the phone app and show Video Chat as WiFi Only while the Samsung video shows the app and says you can video chat almost anywhere. Is that a WiFi almost anywhere or a 3G almost anywhere. Either way though if the tablet truely does not have a phone feature, but is 3G and/or WiFi why couldn’t you turn it into a phone using Google Voice? I’ve long wondered the same thing about an iPod Touch over WiFi of course. And why do I pay for Phone Service now when I have Google Voice? I need the ’3G’ of course, but the whole Minutes issue is mute…

it’s not ‘mute’, the phrase is ‘moot’ and it does have network connectivity ie 3G via a sim card as you are probably aware by now and the ‘minutes’ point is not moot as you pointed out yourself – you need the 3G which is always going to be provided by the mobile networks

WOW! NO PHONE? When I first heard about the Tab they touted a phone and I was ready to wait in line for one. Now that the American big 4 decided not to offer the phone I’ll have to get a Euro model and pay big bucks like I did with my 5 year old i-mate PDA2K.

For all of you who are bashing the device because they didn’t mention a phone feature in the specs… stop. The Galaxy Tab will function as a phone, just not traditionally. Samsung realized that it would be awkward putting a 7″ device to your face to talk so in phone mode the device can only function through a bluetooth peripheral, wired headset, or through the built in speakers. Yes, it can make calls.

Yes, you will be able to get a phone… if you purchase an unlocked, unsponsored European version. These devices are being made to order for the likes of Verizon, ATT and the rest. These companies have decided that they can squeeze more money out of us if you have to have a phone, which will have to be in another device, on another account. It will be like the iPad. These versions will not have phone capabilities… in the USA.

Go to Verizons web site where they have made an announcement on the new Galaxy Tab. They list all the features, including 3G, which if you go online you can probably make contact with someone in real time, but there is no mention of a phone.

This is my first time to get so high tech – Samsung Galaxy Tab which is reallly perfect tab but I also have the same problem with you.
Galaxy supported video formats: MPEG4, H.263, H.264, DivX, XviD, WMV, AVI, 3GP. The way I resolve this problem is decoding my video to formats that my phone supports.

Via google, I find Aunsoft Video Converter which is powerful in converting various video formts to Samsung Galaxy Tab video format listed above .
I believe It will help you out.

Again everyone: THERE IS NO PHONE ON THE GALAXY TAB! I was just issued one by my company. It reminds me of my off-the-grid neighbors who used a Subaru on blocks as a generator…. it worked very well but on the whole the technology was being under-utilized.

I just bought a new Galaxy Tab using T-Mobile in US, after playing around with it for a while, even though it has a sim place to put the sim card in, I couldnt find where to make a call. I went on youtube, but the their Galaxy Tabs each had a phone call icon on it, mine didn’t
