Ruzzle is a gorgeous, competitive and fast-paced word game where you take on friends or strangers over three rounds of word-finding action. Not a trillion miles away from the likes of Boggle and more than a hint towards Scramble with Friends and Word Weasel, it’s an exciting blend of word discovery goodness and pulsating competition.
Price: Free, ~$1.99

Cons
Features:
Ruzzle is essentially a basic, online Boggle clone (as so many word games are these days), where you must find as many words as possible in two minutes. You are faced with a grid of 4×4 tiles and you must create words starting with one letter and only using adjoining letters as you grow the word. Certain letters stand out, a little like Scrabble, where you have triple word, double word, triple letter and double letter scoring. You take it in turns to play three rounds each and the highest score overall wins the contest.
Gameplay then is very familiar, but the polish and design of the game itself is superb, making it massively playable and without the horrible reliability issues that used to occur in the Zynga games. As good-looking and vibrant as the likes of Scramble with Friends and Words with Friends were, they used to crash continually to the point they become impossible to play properly. Ruzzle has none of these problems and I’ve been playing it quite heavily without issue for a number of days now.
You can get the free version of the game, which includes a big advert after each level you play and has less features than the full version, but it’s not overly intrusive or a significant hindrance. If you choose to buy the Premium version, I still think you get good value for money. The game generates statistics which you can view with this paid-for version and there’s even a practice mode you can use.
You can play the game against random strangers (of which there are plenty) or against friends by inviting them directly or through Facebook. In each game there is even a cool chat feature, so whether you want to be friendly and complimentary or adopt challenging trash-talk dialogue, it’s up to you!
I’ve played all manner of word games since I’ve been reviewing games and this, despite its familiarity, feels incredibly fresh and fun. If you’re a big ‘wordie’ this is definitely one to check out. Fancy taking me on? My account name is DEADSHOT, find me in-game and say Hi!

Fun Factor:
The game is oodles of fun if you like word games under pressure. If you’re a steady, purposeful, take your time kinda person this might not work, but for the mentally agile word junkie, this is pure awesome.
Addictive:
Yes, very much so. You can play multiple games at once, so I quickly found myself for half a dozen or more in an average session. Those two minutes just fly by so it’s simple to pick up and play. I found these minutes all stack up and lots of time passed while I was engrossed in the game. Additionally, if you’ve got a buddy to play with, that friendly competition can stretch for quite a few games!
Graphics:
The graphics are very impressive and very easy-on-the-eye. Everything just feels so immaculately smooth and user-friendly. It’s simple to navigate and brilliant to play.
Accelerometer, Vibration & Sound:
There are various sound effects and noises. All are subtle and work with the game really well. I have to admit the sounds when you get a long word are very pleasing, but my family (listening in while I was playing) did find them a bit irritating.
