RR – IPL Cricket Fever is a rich Android 3D cricket game based on teams from the Indian Premier League. Now, it’s a little confusing as the game seems to come in a variety of versions. First you have Cricket T20 Fever, but then you have team specific titles as well including games for Kolkata Knight Riders, Chennai Super Kings, Mumbai Indians, Royal Challengers, Delhi Daredevils, Kings XI Punjab, Deccan Chargers, Pune Warrors and the one I downloaded- the Rajasthan Royals.
Price: Free
Tested on: HTC One X
Content Rating: Low Maturity
Pros & Cons:
Pros
- Impressive 3D graphics!
- Plenty of cool animations!
- Lots of gameplay modes!
- Pick your favourite team and play a customised version of the game!
Cons
- The game features lots of advertising and, while some is more like clever product placement, it can occasionally become a little over bearing.
Features:
I imagine only fans of the sport of cricket will have read down this far. However if curiosity has brought you this far, cricket is a little like baseball in that you have to hit the ball and then run… then things get a little different. One of the most popular national cricket leagues in the world is in India, where the Indian Premier League is a hotly contested and popular tournament. IPL Cricket Fever is the official app of this league and contains all the names and statistics. As mentioned, you can select either the main app, or a team-specific one. I downloaded the Rajasthan Royals one to try out.
Sadly, the first thing you will notice about the game is the advertisements. You have to skip through two before you even get to the main menu. This menu consists of Quick Match, Power Play, Pass-n-Play or DLF IPL (essentially league gameplay). While the number of innings, overs and rules are different, gameplay is much the same. Choose first to bat or bowl.
Bowling requires you to place a target on the pitch, then adjust power, then add spin. You then watch the bowl and subsequent action. You play through, selecting different bowlers after each over until you’ve got everyone out (or you run out of overs, time, etc. depending on the mode). Batting controls are just as simple- adjust your position in the crease, select to hit the ball into the air or along the ground, then swipe in the direction you wish to hit. Again you progress until you are bowled out to complete the set overs, etc.
The game is genuinely slick with all manner of animations and cool 3D graphics. To be fair, it’s pretty close to the kind of graphics you would get on a PlayStation One game, so not at all bad on a mobile device. Additionally the sound is very high quality with great music and really immersive sound effects.
The only thing I had against the game itself was the number of ads. There are several in-game, almost like product placement, plus advertising hoardings and ads placed behind regular cheerleader dances. Now and again a full screen ad will pop up too and you often face more ads as you move through menus etc. I should stress that all these are immediately skippable, and not too bad considering the game is free, but sometime it is a little over bearing. Having to dismiss ad after ad just to get to the gameplay isn’t great, and might put some gamers off in the long term.

Fun Factor:
If you like cricket, IPL Cricket Fever is a great SIM. Full of detail, simple controls, superb graphics and awesome sound, it’s certainly one of the better and most playable cricket games around. Of course hitting the ball for a six (a bit like a home-run for the uninitiated) is a superb achievement and requires great timing and precision. Getting it right requires a bit of practice but is massively rewarding when you do.
Addictive:
Quick matches are only 3 overs each so, while a typical cricket games can last literally days, this is just 3 overs (6 bowls each) per innings. Alternatively you can play much longer matches if you want. This versatility means it is a game you can pick up and play for a few minutes or a few hours, depending on the gamer. It’s incredibly simple to play and creates a highly immersive atmosphere- so it could quite easily becomes something you get addicted to.
Graphics:
The graphics are great, detailed, brilliantly animated and glorious 3D. There are better graphics out there, but his is far better than most.
Accelerometer, Vibration & Sound:
The sound, by all accounts, is excellent. Good music and realistic sound effects.
