AndroidTapp.com Android App Review:

Pros & Cons:

Pros

  • Simple and easy to use
  • One click process to get a clear result

Cons

  • I can’t find any!

Features:

Last week, we ran a quick poll to see if our readers would like to see more applications for rooted devices so here’s the first of many to come!

Root checker is a simple application that’s designed to verify if your device has root access or BusyBox installed. With one click you can instantly see if your attempt to root your phone was successful. Rooting for many devices has become easier and it’s not even just for geeks anymore. Regardless of how conveinent, it’s still possible to have a failed attempt.

To use Root Checker, it’s very simple. Run the app and click “Verify Root Access”. If your successful you’ll get this screen:

If your phone failed to root, you’ll be presented with this:

The same process applies when verifying BusyBox. Many rooted applications rely on BusyBoy being installed on your device. If you don’t have it installed, there are many apps on the Market that allow you to install BusyBox.

Also, another app by this developer is WiMAX RSA Key Chceker. It has the same functionality of Root Checker except it verifies that you have the RSA key to have access to the WiMAX network. Many devices may loose that capability when rooting or installing custom ROMS on devices such as the HTC Evo.

Please: note this app DOES NOT root your device and DOES NOT install BusyBox.

Ease of Use:

Doesn’t get much simpler than this. One-click and your done!

Does anyone else think this has to be the lamest app of all time? Can’t you just use terminal and hit “su”? Why would you waste more space on your phone for this?

Not every person who roots their phone knows how to use a terminal. Also, you can’t use the argument “well if they don’t know how to use terminal they shouldn’t bother rooting their phone”. I knew it was coming.

Plain and simple, some people have made it extremely easy to root. Using software like UNREVOKED is a one click process. Sometimes a consumer just wants to install a wireless tether app. Some just may want to use a root uninstaller to get rid of unwanted apps that carriers preinstall. Not every person who roots is a geek. Not every person who roots will ever need to use terminal either. Plain and simple, this app is meant to just check that you have root access. It doesn’t get much simpler than that.

Yes, a user with adb installed and linux/command line experience could test for root access by simply issuing the command “su”.
I designed this application to do more than just that. Example, if su is merely a copy of /system/bin/sh without the setuid bit set, then typing su will open a new shell, but without root access.
The application does more than just type su, as thats not a thorough/reliable test to guarantee a user can be granted full root access.

Thank you for this great review and I do appreciate all the support!
