(Must Play!) Ridiculous Fishing – cool retro game with crazy twist on fishing!
Dec 6, 2013 8:55 AM –
Ridiculous Fishing is an angling game like no other. Sure you have to cast your rod and aim for the biggest bite and there’s plenty of upgrades to increase this. Also like other fishing games, you can visit different waters and collect different aquatic species. That, however, is where similarities end. How does collecting loads of fish before blasting them out of the sky with an Uzi sound? How about ripping through fish as you plummet the depths with a chainsaw lure? If you find fishing boring, this game might change your mind!
Tested on: Nexus 4
Pros & Cons:
- Cool retro graphics!
- Great sound and music!
- Very addictive!
- Realistically accessible upgrades!
- Pure, unadulterated fun!
So, here’s how Ridiculous Fishing works… First you cast your rod and watch as your lure descends through the water. At this point, you can tilt your device to avoid fishy friends and sink as deep as you can. Once you catch a fish or run out of line, you lure starts to make it’s way back up and you use tilt again, this time to catch as many fish as you can. Once your lure- and all the fish you have collected- reaches the surface, they splash out into the sky where you are promptly required to blow them out of the sky with an assortment of high powered weaponry.
It has all the joys of traditional fishing games- even down to upgrading equipment to get the best out of your environment, with the madcap blasting of Duck Hunt. As it’s name suggests, the game is utterly ridiculous and chock loads of fun to boot. Ridiculous Fishing is also insanely addictive- it’s genuinely tough to put down and gameplay has that ‘one more go’ engagement to contend even the likes of Angry Birds.
…all the fish … splash out into the sky where you are promptly required to blow them out of the sky with an assortment of high powered weaponry.
You can upgrade various pieces of equipment. You can extend your line- remember the deeper you are, the more fish you can collect on the way up. You can upgrade your lure to one which can rip through fish that dare land on your hook too early and finally you can upgrade your gun; start with simple shooters and work your way up to more serious hardware. Finally, you can collect the different fish you catch and these are stored in a fishing book you can purchase early on. If that wasn’t enough, you can also buy a hat.
The graphics and sound are excellent. While the former is quite pixellated and retro-themed (another nod to Duck Hunt I’m guessing) the latter is excellent and incredibly rich with both music and effects. Ridiculous Fishing is a paid-for game ($2.99) but I can guarrantee you that it’s worth every penny. Gameplay is rich, varied and fun. Music and sound is excellent and the whole experience is so damn addictive!
