Pros
Cons
I am a closet “prosumer” photographer, so I love taking pictures. I have to admit, I don’t take a lot of them with my phone since I have some very expensive camera equipment, but I love to experiment with the different types of apps and effects I can get with images on my phone. Not to mention, the phone is always with me, and the cameras are not, so I use it more than I thought I would. That said, I don’t really like taking pictures with the tablet. It’s a bit too big, and while the photo editing and sharing on that size is great, it’s not a device I would want to really be taking that many shots with. So this review will focus mainly on using Retro Camera on the phone.
I absolutely love that Retro Camera has several different types of effects to choose from, and you pick them by selecting the camera type, rather than applying the to the shot after the fact. This gives it more of a “real” feeling that I really enjoyed. I also really, really like that each camera not only comes with a “camera facts” box to give you the details about the kind of photo you’ll take with it, but it also has a tiny thumbnail example, showing you exactly what they would look like. Within the app, it also breaks it down to the pictures taken with each camera type, so it’s easy to go back to see which images and effects were achieved with which camera at a glance.
Taking pictures in the app is very easy – you just hit the on-screen shutter button. The app does have an auto-focus, so give it a minute to adjust and take the picture.
When viewing the pictures, as well as sharing them, I love that the developers carried over the old-timey look and feel with the fonts, borders, even the icons contributing to the total package.
If you’re looking to spice up your photos, this is a great app to do it with.
It is very, very easy to see exactly what each camera does, and then later to go back and compare since you can see exactly which shots were taken with each one. I don’t think the developers could have made it any easier.
This depends on how often you use your phone as a camera. If you use it a lot, then this is an app that is going to get a lot of use once you see how great your shots come out with it. I might add it is worthy of replacing your default camera application.
The interface is very clean and has an old-school look and feel that I love. It is carried through the entire app, so the developers did a really great job designing not just a photo filter app, but a solid camera application that feels like the total package.

Should you Download Retro Camera? Absolutely yes! If you like to use your phone to take pictures, then this is a fantastic app to give you a lot more creative options than the stock camera. This is a must-buy in my opinion.
