Recipe Search for Android encompasses just what the app name implies. You can find recipes from top cooking websites as well as videos from YouTube all in one convenient app.
Price: Free
Tested on: Samsung Galaxy S3
Content Rating: Low Maturity
Pros & Cons:
Pros
- Find recipes from the web and videos from YouTube!
- Filter by cook time and calories!
- Save individual recipes or entire search results.
Cons
- Overall user experience could use some polish.
- Occasional force close.
Features:
Recipe Search for Android allows you to search popular recipe resources on the web in addition to YouTube videos. You can filter cooking times, if you wanted to quickly prepare a meal in 15 minutes or set no cooking timer at all. If you’re health conscious there is a calorie filter, you can sort only those with a thumbnail (yet I found this to not work properly- it gave mixed results with ‘Thumbnail’ feature), or filter from several languages. Now that your filter parameters are set, you can enter specific recipes you like and the app brings back some tasty combinations. If you find recipes you like you tap the plus button to bookmark it, plus you can bookmark entire search parameters for later perusal.
All search results rely on third party websites like Food.com, Kraft, Recipes.com, etc. so the presentation is dependent on the source. Therefore, within the app you may get a neatly formatted mobile experience with only vertical scrolling and readable font sizes or you may get the full website, in which you must pan, scroll and zoom about t read. Just as you can filter and find results from websites, you do the same with results from YouTube videos.
There is a tablet version, however, I could not access it in the Google Play on a Nexus 7, which is a Jelly Bean (Android 4.1) tablet, nor a Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 (7″), which is an Ice Cream Sandwich (Android 4) tablet. So I assume it is accessible on a Gingerbread (Android 3) tablet, however, we could not test this as we no longer have the older tablets in our office.
Overall, there are kinks in the total user experience because it blindly depends on other websites for content, navigation could use some streamlining, but the app is a convenient starting point for finding delicious dishes online and via video!

Usefulness:
Depending on who you ask… I say yes! Although you can simply search Google on your Android and possibly find and bookmark the results in your web browser, or search cooking tutorials directly from the YouTube app on your Android; Recipe Search for Android offers the convenience of search and bookmarking from one place. So, yes, it’s not a must-have app, but a convenient start for foodies.
Ease of Use & Interface:
The app is pretty easy to use. I personally wish the navigation and layout were a bit more streamlined, though it needs more polish, it is still very functional.
Frequently Used:
This depends on the type of foodie you are. If you can tear yourself away from top Android recipe apps like Epicurious or these on the Google Play store and try another app like this one… you may rotate it in our kitchen arsenal.
