Quantum Explorer – old school maze explorer puzzler meet Quantum Physics for good nerd fun! Install

Quantum Explorer is an old-school puzzle game where you explore ‘the quantum fabric of the universe’, finding keys, defeating bad atoms, finding keys and helpful atoms in addition to escaping each level by reaching the singularity. It’s essentially a simple yet nerd-tastic adventure style game that works really well on our touchscreen device.

Pros & Cons:

Pros

  • Fun, old school gameplay!
  • Addictive!
  • Decent music!

Cons

  • Very retro graphics aren’t going to be for everyone.
  • Shooting through walls doesn’t seem to work (for me anyway).

Features:

Quantum Explorer is a puzzle game with a difference. You essentially have to explore each level, finding atoms which will help in either defeating or avoiding bad atoms. As you gradually create a path through each maze-like level, you can make your way to the singularity which portals you off to the next level. You control your character (an eyeball) by pressing on the screen in the direction you want it to go. Now, while this is very effective, you occasionally feel a little unsighted if you move around quickly so it’s best to press on the square you want to reach.

The first thing you need to try and do if you can is find some Cesium-137 which acts like ammo and allow you to shoot and destroy Iron atoms which get in your way. Additionally, ions (they look like keys) help you unlock magnetic fields. Other useful items include Cobalt which cause you to fire shots horizontally and vertically. You will want to try and avoid atoms like Neodymium (I told you this was nerdy!) as it chases after you. Another baddie is Flerovium-289 which releases harmful gamma rays.

The game plays like an old-school 2D maze game so it should be relatively familiar and it’s certainly easy to play. Each level seems to have a certain path and the puzzle is to work this out logically. These visuals aren’t going to be for everyone- they are very basic indeed- but if you can see around this the gameplay is consistent and fun. The only problem I encountered was that I couldn’t shoot through walls (whereas the help section tells you that you can).

Overall, Quantum Explorer is a fun little game that is sure to be loved by science geeks. Gameplay is engaging and more than a little addictive. If you expect and demand high quality graphics this doesn’t deliver, but if you value the experience, you might just want to check this out. It’s free so definitely give it a go.

Fun Factor:

Quantum Explorer is a simple game but fun to play and enjoyable. It doesn’t pretend to have the WOW factor you get with some titles, but this is nice to play and it certainly had me engaged while I was playing.

Addictive:

Yes, quite a bit actually. It feels quite rewarding when you work out how to reach the exit and this is more than enough to keep you captivated. Each level can take only a few minutes to complete so it’s a good casual game.

Graphics:

The visuals are extremely simple but are also nicely animated and there are certainly far worse games out there graphics-wise. However, if you demand the 3D Hollywood-style visuals of the top end games, this will be disappointing. Despite this, the gameplay is fun, so definitely give it a crack if you’re undecided.

Accelerometer, Vibration & Sound:

The sound is very good. A cool little music track thumps along in the background as you play and it compliments the game really well. Additionally, you have various sound effects that reflect shooting, collecting, etc.

Should you Download Quantum Explorer? Quantum Explorer isn’t going to blow your mind any time soon, but if you can see around the simplistic graphics it’s a bit of a diamond, especially considering that it’s a free game without ads. If you’re a bit of a science geek and/or like old school style exploring games, this will, however, be right up your street. The game has a certain charm that’s fun and gameplay that might be tricky to put down.
