AndroidTapp.com Android App Review:

Pros & Cons:

Pros

  • Allows you to log in to multiple social networks in a single app!
  • Allows you to access both Facebook Chat and Myspace IM, plus FourSquare, WordPress, LastFm, Live Journal, and many more in one location!
  • Allows you to post to all your networks at once!
  • Offers single sign on for all of your accounts!

Cons

  • Facebook integration is broken, enabling it will temporarily lock you out of your Facebook account.
  • Cluttered user interface.
  • No option to create user defined network lists for easy selection of your desired Blogs for posting.
  • Extremely slow loading application.

Features:

QISS IM is an application designed to consolidate all of your social networks in to one convenient and easy to access location. It allows you to add social networks like Facebook, Myspace, Twitter, and Foursquare into the application and to manage them in a single app. QISS IM features instant messaging support for many social networks, the ability to make a post on multiple social networks with one touch, consolidated news feeds, and cross-network picture and link posting.

QISS IM supports a single sign on to log into all of your social networking applications through this singe app. In order to take advantage of it you will need to create a QISS account first. This account remembers all of your social network information and prevents you from having to retype it on each login or on other devices. After creating an account you are able to begin adding social accounts. Currently QISS IM supports: Facebook, Twitter, Myspace, WordPress, LinkedIn, Vkontakte, Mail_Ru, LiveJournal, Flickr, LastFM, FourSquare, Bebo, Goodreads, Blogger, YouTube, Delicious, and RSS Feeds.

Once all of your social networks are added you are able to begin using the application. One of the unique features of QISS IM is that it allows you to post written text, graphics, and links across multiple social networks at once. So if you have a Facebook account, Myspace, Twitter, and a personal blog at WordPress you could post to all four accounts at once. In order to do this you just need to go to either posts, graphics, or links depending on the kind of post you wish to share. Then you input the proper information to share and select the social networks you wish to share it to. Finally, by hitting the submit button that information is shared across multiple social networks at once.

The “News Feed” option in QISS IM shows you all of the recent social network posts from each of your provided networks in one single location. This screen allows you to see recent Facebook, Twitter, Myspace, LinkedIn, and Blog updates in one single place and to see when they were posted in a chronological order instead of having to access each social network individually to access the same information. You can also choose to just see updates from select networks on this screen to reduce clutter, and to remove certain less used networks from your list (cough MySpace). :P

Finally, the “Chat” feature allows you to message other users of your respective social networks. This allows you to utilize Facebook Chat, Myspace IM, and others all through one application. This portion of the application works just like any other instant messaging service and allows you to log into the messaging services of as many of the supported social networks as you wish.

Usefulness:

QISS IM would be more useful if it worked properly with Facebook. Support for Twitter was flawless and allowed me to see all of my Tweets on one easy to access screen, but the Facebook integration kept throwing up red flags over at Facebook.com. The problem is that QISS hosts their servers in Germany, with what appears to be a floating IP address. Whenever you access your Facebook account through the QISS IM application it locks you out of your Facebook account for suspected hacking and you are unable to access it again until going to the Facebook website. Even with the Facebook issues aside, I felt that the user interface was somewhat frustrating to use and did not feel like it gave a satisfactory user experience.

Ease of Use:

QISS IM is not overly difficult to use. Once you have created an account it is easy to set up each of your social networking accounts through the application. It is also extremely easy to know where to go in the application in order to update your networks, check your feeds, and send IM’s.

The biggest downside to this application other than the enormous Facebook flaw is its overwhelming amount of options when trying to post to or view your social networks. Before you type your posts or view your feeds you always have to select which networks you would like to post to and what network specific options you wish to use. Instead of making you choose every time. You should be able to pre-populate in a default list of social networks for posting and viewing, and then have a separate drop-down which is opened through the menu key to reduce screen clutter and prevent overloading the user with options.

Frequently Used:

I have not reused QISS IM since my time spent initially testing the application. I have used the application perhaps a dozen times in order to prepare this review and was locked out of my Facebook each time through the application. If you are planning on using this application for Facebook IM then look elsewhere. If you are looking for a good application to view Blogs and Twitter, then perhaps QISS IM is still for you.

Interface:

As previously stated the interface is easy to understand and presents the user with obvious options for all of their social networks. However, when posting it tends to overload the user with options and forces them to choose social networks instead of allowing them to choose their own defaults. If the developer reduced the clutter and allowed the user to create predefined network lists it would go a long way to improving this application’s interface.

Another complaint I have about this app’s user interface is that it is extremely slow to load. When moving from screen to screen or feed to feed there is constantly a loading symbol covering my screen. This would happen on almost every screen I loaded on, whether my HTC Droid Incredible 2 and a Sony Xperia Play. There is no reason for this to happen on high end devices and is most likely a server issue with the application.

Should you Download qiss.IM? I would not personally recommend downloading QISS IM for Facebook News or Chat. The interface is cluttered and slow, the Facebook integration is inoperable and will lock you out constantly from your Facebook account.  Where QISS currently does perform well is with Twitter, FourSquare, Myspace, and WordPress. If the developer fixes the Facebook issues in a future release this may be an application worth revisiting due to its RSS feed and Blog integration, but in its current form I would not recommend using it if you are looking for an all in one Social Networking Solution.
