AndroidTapp.com Android App Review:

Pros & Cons:

Pros

  • A wide range of concerts available, with more being added all the time!
  • Pretty good quality video!
  • Several apps optimized for different device types!
  • You can hear a preview of the concert before you rent it!

Cons

  • I didn’t see an obvious way to subscribe to the all-access pass in the app – it focuses on the price of individual concerts.
  • You aren’t buying the clip to use whenever and wherever you want, from now until you get tired of it. You are renting it for viewing for a period of time.
  • The catalog has a lot of older artists, but not as many of the new, hot concerts.

Features:

Do you like rock concerts? Are you either in an area where they don’t come often, or you can’t afford or don’t want to spend the huge amounts of money a ticket to one of these events typically costs? Then Qello might be for you.

The app, which is free to install, allows you to view rock concerts from a range of artists. These run from the small, intimate settings to the larger stage shows, giving you access to a lot of concerts you’d other wise never get to see. In terms of artist selection, it was decent. It skews toward classic rock artists, but there are some current in there as well, and the company continues to add more. I was disappointed there weren’t any of the current, big mainstream artists though. People like Madonna or Lady Gaga put on great shows, but the app really skewed more toward the type of artists who sit at a keyboard and play while they sing. Which is still nice, but keep it in mind if you’re looking for something different.

You can watch a preview of anything before you pay to rent it, which is another nice feature. It allows you to really decide if this is a concert you want to watch before you spend the money for it. The cost is either $4.99 for a single concert, which you can watch as many times as you’d like for 30 days, or, according to the app page, there is an All-Access subscription available for $4.99 a month, giving you access to watch whatever you want. I only found evidence of that on the app description page, however. Inside the app itself, I was only able to rent individual concerts, and found no mention of the monthly subscription.

The concerts themselves were actually pretty decent video quality. At least the ones I tried, it was clear, and the audio was as good as my device speakers could produce. I was impressed that the clips are just as high quality as the full concert, which really allows you to make an informed decision before buying anything.

Usefulness:

I don’t know that I would call this app useful, as much as entertaining. If you like live music, then this is a way to consume it at a much lower cost, catch up on a missed concert, and without having to leave your house if you don’t want to. For the cost, 30 days of viewing is pretty decent, as I can’t see you wanting to watch it more than a few times anyway. The only downside here is the limited selection of artist types to choose from, for right it seems.

Ease of Use:

The app itself was very easy to use. I didn’t have any problems getting up and running, viewing the catalog or watching a concert video. It was very simple to use.

Frequently Used:

This depends on how often you plan to watch concerts. For some people, I could see this app being used a few times a week. For others, it might be once a month. This really depends on your personal concert viewing habits.

Interface:

As I mentioned, the interface is actually laid out pretty well, making finding and playing concerts very simple. Getting more information, and even switching between clips, is very intuitive and makes the app feel very seamless.

Should you Download Qello? Qello is actually very solid. I’m not giving it a higher rating, however, because the catalog right now is limited. If you like classic rock, or traditional alternative/indy artists, there’s a lot here for you. But if you like anything else, you’re probably going to be disappointed.
