Features:
ProCapture – camera + panorama is a slick and full-featured camera replacement application for your Android smartphone. While many native snappers are often quite good, some lack the more professional options of apps like this. Two stand out cameras I’ve experienced recently have been native on the HTC One X and the new Nexus 4. However, apps with more functionality are available in the Google Play Store and ProCapture is one such solution. Now, I’m pretty happy with the shooter on my Nexus 4 but this has turned my head a little and I certainly think it’s worth keeping.
The app comes with a large number of different modes to shoot in. There are six shooting modes, three focus modes, seventeen different scene modes and eleven color effects. There are further imaging options that let you adjust white balance and exposure settings. Add to this flash control, location preferences, histogram, composition, aspect ratio, picture size & quality, and you have an excellent camera application that should tick all but the fussiest of photography fans. It does, of course, lack the 360 degree panorama mode of Android 4.2 but does feature a nifty and easy to use panoramic mode of its own.
These functions are wrapped in an easy-to use interface with scroll down in-view menu screen. You can control everything pretty much with your thumb as you hold your device steady and overall it is very easy to use- despite the wealth of options. The animations (e.g. from landscape to portrait mode) are remarkably smooth and buttery. I also liked the ability to define the image quality. Some apps I’ve tried halt you at 3-5MP whereas ProCapture goes up to a far more respectable 8MP and makes the most of your devices capabilities.
I think all the preferences, modes and options might be wasted on some users. If you want a very simple camera, you probably have it on your device already. However, if you take your Android photography a little more seriously, this ticks many boxes. The app isn’t particularly cheap and, at nearly $5 it might seem like a lot for an app that replaces an existing one. However, for all the added options and the impressive results, I think it’s worth it.

Usefulness:
For perhaps adding a few crucial features to a normal Android camera, ProCapture is an excellent option for amateur photographers. The app also features a timer, a good macro mode, the ability to save either locally or to SD and a burst mode. It is an app you perhaps have to take the time to explore to uncover all the features, but it’s fun to do so.
Ease of Use:
By just using your thumb you can pretty much scroll and select all the options available to you. The controls are also incredibly intuitive and user friendly.
Frequently Used:
I think the app has more than the ability to replace your existing camera- perhaps with the exception of the top end devices. Even on these, however, it’s nice app to have for all the extra features that might come in useful. Perhaps then as a compliment to your usual camera.
Interface:
The interface is exceptional. It looks really good and is easy to use and navigate. Perhaps folks with bigger thumbs might find the tabs a little on the small side, but I found it very accurate and responsive.
