PokerStars.net Mobile Edition is the official app of the popular poker gaming website. It’s a free-to-play game that allows you to dive straight into the action against thousands of online players. You can choose whether you want to play in Ring Games, Zoom, Sit & Go or Tourney before opting whether to play one of three different styles: No Limit Texas Hold’em, Omaha or Omaha Hi/Lo.
Price: Free to Play
Note: this app is not accessible in Google Play in the U.S.
Tested on: Nexus 4
Content Rating: Medium Maturity
Pros & Cons:
Pros
- Smooth visuals!
- Plenty of gaming options!
- Easy to play and become involved!
- Fast play!
Cons
- Seemingly iffy connections mean some players might disappear and hold the game up for around 5 minutes or so.
- As the game is via the Google Play Store, it does not play with real money (this is perhaps a Pro and Con to some).
Features:
PokerStars.net is one of the most popular poker websites on the internet, I know this without being much of a poker player! The official app brings a high quality and professional feel to it and is fast, fun and provides plenty of options for players. What struck me the most about this app is just how fast you get thrown into the action. You log in, make a selection and you are suddenly at a table and ready to play. You can filter for what you are looking for game-wise in the lobby, but if you want poker action quickly, this is great.
The game allows you to connect over 3G, 4G or WiFi. This, if you want to access live games on the go is obviously great, but I often found connections with other players a little dodgy. The problem that creates is, even in fast games, if a player disconnects, they are given several minutes to return. Even if they do not return, their hand is still valid and they can win the pot regardless of whether they are there or not. I guess this part is fair if their hand is strong but waiting for minutes and minutes as one of the other players is pretty frustrating at times.
As I mentioned before, I’m not much of a poker player so concentrated mostly on working with string pairs and other combinations. I think any success I had I can mostly put down to luck rather than skill and found making money just as easy as losing it. I never had a moments problem finding a game, and for newbies like myself, there are instructions and game rules if you look for them. Remember though, the game uses play money rather than real cash.
What you most take away from the game generally though is speed. Just by tapping a ‘Play Now’ button puts you right in the midst of a game. You can even select to table hop with the Zoom feature which whisks you from table to table with each fold. If you’e a big fan of poker games, you’ll probably have tried all the others, in which case, definitely give PokerStars.net a go! If you’re a newbie to the game I think there might well be slower and more instructional poker games out there, but I still found it an exhilarating experience that’s both fast and fun.

Fun Factor:
If you already enjoy card games, perhaps especially poker, this is definitely a game to try out. There’s a real rush when you win, as well as the fast-pace of the game that makes it enjoyable.
Addictive:
Well, poker is quite addictive isn’t it? The game doesn’t use real money and encourages you to gamble responsibly when you do elsewhere but it’s a fun game to play and as the chips stack up, it’s generates quite a thrill.
Graphics:
The visuals are quite typical of top card games in the Google Play Store. The animations and menus are incredibly slick and feel good to explore.
Accelerometer, Vibration & Sound:
There isn’t a whole lots of music but there are plenty of sound effect in-game which reflect the action.
