AndroidTapp.com Android Game Review:

Pros & Cons:

Pros

  • Smooth 3D graphics even with lots of players on screen
  • Cross-platform gameplay
  • Enough content to keep you addicted for quite some time
  • A great alternative for those who like MMO games on their Mac or PC
  • App is moveable to SD card which is great considering the size (Almost 30mb!)

Cons

  • May run slower on lower-end devices
  • Need some of the premium content to fully unlock the game

Features:

After playing this game for a few days, I definitely feel like I brought myself back to my World of Warcraft days.  Creating and modifying your character, exploring a massive online world with thousands (if not millions) of others playing at the same time, tweeking my Night Elf to have some completely epic gear on level 19. Okay, it’s time to bring it back a notch. Unsurprisingly so, many other reviewers from the media and users alike compare this game to WoW in many aspects. To date, it’s the closest thing you’ll find to fulfilling your MMO itch on an Android platform. Trust me, Pocket Legends doesn’t disappoint.

What Is Pocket Legends?

To date, Pocket Legends is the largest MMO game for your mobile device. This means when you play this game, you’ll be connecting with other Android and iPhone users around the world (yes, this game is cross-platform). If your familiar with MMORPG games like World of Warcraft, this game should be easy to pick up. For those of you new to hobby, Pocket Legends consists of battles, quests, exploration, and customization. More on that later…

How Do I Get Started?

Download the app from the Android Market. On the first run, you’ll notice it still has some unpacking to do. This also happens when you do an update on the app as well. You’ll be greeted with the start-up screen. Here you can either create a new account or just try it without registering! Of course, this will limit you to the first campaign.

Next, choose your class of character. You’re given three options: Warrior, Enchantress, or Archer. Don’t worry, you can have more than one so pick your poison to explore with. The game drops you into a entry-level “dungeon” to give you a tutorial on how to use Pocket Legends. Right away you’ll notice the gameplay is smooth and the UI is designed very well. Explore the newbie area to get the controls down before moving on. As you move on throughout the game, you’ve develop your character by adding new skills, increase skill points, customizing your character with armor and weapons and so much more. I’ve been playing the game about 5 hours now and have discovered quite a bit but I’m sure there’s even more to Pocket Legends I haven’t found yet.

Okay, this game is great but is it free?

Yes, to download the game and explore the first two campaigns is completely free. This game has NO MONTHLY FEE. As you progress in the game, your given the option to purchase premium content using “Platinum” and “Gold” which can be purchased through the app’s webstore. If you spend enough time playing this game, it’s worth it. If your a casual user, the first two campaigns may be enough.

Quests are cool but what else can I do?

The also offers PvP games such as Arena and Capture The Flag. You can play those free with the game. Just note, you can’t play any PvP games with over 50 items in your inventory!

Pocket Legends Logged In

You mentioned cross-platform, explain that a little further.

Here’s another awesome feature about pocket legends. You can log into your game on your Android device (in my case, my HTC Evo), a friend’s Samsung Galaxy Tab (looks gorgeous on the large screen too), my iPod Touch (yes, I do own one. Don’t make fun of me.), or a co-workers iPhone. All your data is stored on the server. The application is simply the client that runs the game. That means even if you lost your phone, you could get your replacement device and start where you left off! I haven’t experienced an issue yet but if the application were to corrupt upon updating, all you would need to do is reinstall the app. No loss of information at all.

Fun Factor & Addictive:

I find myself playing this game during breaks about as often as I do Angry Birds. Maybe that’s the geek in me, but I definitely consider it to be fun.

Graphics:

Smooth and brilliant. Works great whether your on both phones and tablet devices. This is truly ground-breaking 3D gaming that Android benefits from.

Should you Download Pocket Legends? YES! This is a fun and exciting game to play online with others in a real-time virtual world. Even without using the premium content, this game is worth the space it consumes on your device (or SD card). We look to see more from Pocket Legends in the future!

Thats unfortunate. It’s such a great game! Spacetime Studios has been pretty good about creating updates and making it work on a variety of devices. Let’s home rooted devices like yours will be able to run Pocket Legends soon.

How about it doesn’t request excessive permissions and I’ll continue playing it, phone call state and identity? A bit much for a online game.

Are you kidding? Did you ever imagine how it would use such permissions? I’d understand if you said it’s excessive to ask for contact information, but this only leads me to believe you aren’t aware of why a game would want to know what state the phone is in. Ever think that it needs to know if you get a phone call so it can disconnect from the server? Just a thought.

So will this stay connected to the internet (or wifi.. whatever it uses) while playing? If so, won’t that just end up increasing the phone bill?

Needs state info for exactly what Jason said, mobile games need to sleep during phone calls so they dont take up all system resources while you’re trying to use it as a phone. As far as connection costs go, if you get a phone that benefits from constant internet connection you really should have a price plan that gives a large amount of monthly data, mine has unlimited internet for £25, so no extra charges for using internet. On wifi it would be free, since it goes through your home broadband which tends to have a very high limit.
