AndroidTapp.com Android App Review:

Pros & Cons:

Pros

  • Manipulate photos with effects directly on your phone
  • Share and Upload to PhotoShop.com Account

Cons

  • Limited features
  • Persistent background processing, attributes to performance/battery drain

Features:

Photoshop.com Mobile Android App allows you to edit photos on your phone and upload to their photo sharing service. Though a limited feature set you can Crop, Straighten, Rotate, Flip, manipulate Exposure, Saturation, Tint, convert to Black and White, and set Soft Focus on photos.

Gripe Alert: Being a Graphic Designer by trade, I was a bit disappointed with Adobe’s debut onto the Android platform, especially since this version offers slightly less features than the iPhone version.

I understand the rationale for background processing for the app, continuous upload while performing other tasks… but what if you’re not uploading to Photoshop.com? Worse, the app persistently inserts itself into background processing even if killed with TasKiller or Advanced Task Killer.  :-(

Usefulness:

Not a world of useful but a nice to have app. Worth trying but I would suggest checking out Eric Wijngaard’s PicSay for more photo manipulation capabilities.

Ease of Use:

The app is easy to use on most features but could use some intuitive work on the Saturation & Exposure editing (however I would suggest checking out this How-To video as a refresher).

Frequently Used:

User dependent… even more frequent if coupled with their online photo service.

Interface:

The user interface is sleek, intuitive and mobile optimized.

I find it unacceptable for apps to continuously run in the background by force, so I uninstalled it. Was a really nice app though.

nice initial release but needs ALOT of work, its lacking many features compared to its no-name competitors. Also whats up with the upload intent? Its nice they have their own upload server but at least give us the option for email, twitter, facebook, etc throught the proper intent.

This program does so very little. I would expect with Adobes name on it, it would be something good. It does nothing but drain battery life. It doesn’t have a sharpen tool, which would be the single most desired tool for a phone IMHO. Junk.

  4. Paul says:

Agreed that the background processing (even when you decline via the Settings to share, and even when you are logged out from Adobe.com!) is totally unnecessary and justifies uninstalling the app.

Adobe needs to get the message. All their effort was wasted on this app if it hogs memory resources needlessly.

I found that after I installed this, I had about 2 hours of battery life, while the phone just sat unplugged. One day it went from full to under half full in 25 minutes. As my wife said, “that is a big FAIL!”

I really had a lot of hope for this app, as it offered some nice, basic photo editing capabilities. Keep trying adobe, I haven’t totally lost faith yet.

Thought it might be a nice app but why does it need to run in the background if I am not using it? Installed.

  7. Schnickelg says:

Why does this application need to access my contact data?
