How good are you at geography? Well, the extraordinarily titled Phooter 2 Flickr Photo Shooter aims to test just that! Now, I’ve stumbled upon one or two of these kind of games on Facebook before, they aren’t quite a good as this. Phooter 2 is challenging, fun, educational and even mildly addictive.

Cons
Features:
What Phooter 2 does is quite clever. It draws upon publicly posted Flickr pictures from various worldwide locations and challenges you to place them on a map. Now, if it’s a picture of Buckingham Palace or the Statue of Liberty, it’s pretty straight forward right? But, while it does have plenty of famous landmarks, it also offers a wide number of locations that really test your geography knowledge to the limits. For expanding your horizons, it’s a pretty cool game to try. Obviously too, if you’re in high school and studying geography, this is a great compliment to your learning.
First you can select between Famous (landmarks) and Capital (cities). I enjoy these games but I’m not great at them so tend to get slightly better scores on the famous landmarks. For example, images of the National Archaeological Museum of Athens aren’t the easiest to guess unless you’ve perhaps been there! When you think you might know where the image was taken, you are taken to the world map screen where you must accurately place ‘Phootie’ as close to the locations as possible. The closer you get the more points you earn. What is great about the game is that, after you have guessed, the game gives you the answer with the name of the location and Flickr link so you can check out the picture album for yourself.
To be extra accurate, use your devices pinch-to-zoom feature to go in close and deposit Phootie really close to the exact location. Some photos are easier than others. A shot of Red Square is Moscow managed to get me over 900 points after I correctly got within 1km of the precise spot. Alternatively, I thought some bags of grain were taken in Thailand (it was just a guess) when in fact it was from Cairo market in Egypt! OK, so it can really lay bare your lack of geographical expertise, but it’s cool when you get close!

Fun Factor:
OK, so Phooter 2 isn’t in any way an action packed adventure fest- unless perhaps you have a remarkable imagination! It is fun, however, when you get answers right or explore some great photo sets.
Addictive:
I think if you can get into it, it’s definitely something you’ll play over and over again. So it’s never going to be Angry Birds, but it’s engaging in its own way.
Graphics:
The graphics are quite simple really, no animation, just map views, striking photography and the ever-present Phootie character who looks like a large green foot. It is not especially dazzling, but overall it’s well designed and looks pretty slick.
Accelerometer, Vibration & Sound:
There are various sound effects here and there, but the music is pretty horrible. Kind of jazzy… but then maybe that’s down to my taste in music rather than anything else!
