Phoenix MP3 – an app to download free MP3s & music for Android!

Phoenix MP3 is a music and MP3 downloader app for Android. Though it has social incentives to unlock the full features, you can create your own groups to share music & chat with Facebook friends, plus get the list of top ten downloaded songs to easily grab, or import MP3s from your SD card to use the built-in player.

Cons
- Not as accurate or as many song download results as I have seen in previous apps.
- Don’t care for the social incentives to unlock full features.
- Really basic MP3 music player, better off using default player or other MP3 player apps.
Features:
One of the most sought after things people want on their shiny new Android phone or tablet is an app to download free music & MP3s, and with Phoenix MP3, you most certainly can simply by searching a song title or artist and download it to your phone’s SD card. I’ll take this opportunity to discuss the good, the bad and the ugly…
The Good
If snagging free music wasn’t incentive enough to download this app- how about the fact that the app is free to download. Plus, we’ve seen plenty of these apps spring up like weeds and Google then banishes them from the Play Store as it violates the terms of service. Hint: better download it while you can! (More on why in ‘The Ugly’ section below.)
Upon opening the app you can find the top 10 downloaded songs. Of course you can search for music or use the ‘Similar’ music tab in addition to the ‘Tags’ to find music you like. Once you find a song, it opens an MP3 player and streams the song for you automatically, although I prefer that it gives you the option to stream or download rather than automatically playing the song. Yet, it’s a good way to tell if the version you’re downloading is indeed the correct version and not a remix for example.
Phoenix MP3 Meta Tag Editor
Phoenix MP3 also has a sweet MP3 tag editor to modify metadata like Artist, Song Title, Album, Genre, and Track Number information. This type of information is notorious for either being missing or tampered with by the source download website’s info as promotional. If you have the time to manage this metadata, it can make your music library experience smoother.
Additionally, Phoenix MP3 has a socially incentivized feature that encourages you to sign up with your Facebook account and invite friends to share songs to unlock the full features of the app; ringtone creator, music alarm, and home screen widget (full explanation in ‘The Bad’ section below.) Lastly, the app allows you to create ‘Groups’ to share with friends and start chats.
The Bad
This may be a question of preference and taste, as I totally understand the social incentives of getting your friends involved for free to unlock the full feature set for free, some freemium games do this all day long in Google Play. However, you are limited to 25 downloads per month by default with the app plus your download speed it throttled (bad enough you have to deal with this with carriers). 
You have to unlock the Silver status by creating a group with at least 3 friends to get access to 50 downloads per month and the ringtone creator. Or unlock Gold status for unlimited downloads, no speed throttling, access to homescreen widget and other extras; yet you will have to achieve Silver status plus invite 5 friends and send three MP3s from the player. This may appeal to a younger crowd as they can technically do a few things on social media to get unlimited access to the app.
The above is really not that horrid except for the fact that the app really does not find truly accurate search results or plentiful search results as I’ve seen in comparison to other apps in the past. Check out the search results I get from Phoenix MP3 versus my new fave (yet pulled from Google Play) MP3 Downloader below. See the choice in the song results? Sure Phoenix MP3 pulled up more of the similar artist’s songs, however, with less popular artists, you get less than desirable results. You may question, don’t you really only need one result? However, I’ve noticed in these types of apps, the first result is not always a good result so it may take a few tries to get the correct song.

The Ugly
So we are clear, downloading MP3s you haven’t paid for is stealing and violates the original copyright holder’s property rights. This is why apps like this pop up and are taken down from the Google Play store, eventually… so better download it while you can!

Usefulness:
Downloading music on Android or on the Internet for that matter is a little too easy, and with apps like this, it satisfies a lot of people’s needs… even if it supports morally wrong behaviors.
Ease of Use:
The app is pretty straightforward until you hit your 25 download threshold at the Bronze level then wonder why you cannot download anymore songs. Once you’ve understood how to unlock more download allowance and additional features it will be a go to app for snagging free MP3s.
Frequently Used:
This is a question on your need for music and whether you’re willing to lure your Facebook friends in to delve into the music sharing and group chat features the app offers.
Interface:
The interface utilizes principles of Google’s ‘Holo’ design mandate, which is a cleaner design standard or Android apps, yet I feel it could use more organization as there’s slider tabs scattered throughout and no central form of navigation. It just feels slightly disorienting.
