The Perfect Android Phone! What’s Yours? [Mashup]

By receiving many review phones and tablets, it is one of many reasons I have not personally purchased a new Android phone (I’m still sporting the Nexus One by choice). It got me thinking why I really haven’t, I’m looking for the perfect Android phone but finding that ultimate combination will be a wishful mashup.

If I had to describe the perfect Android phone that suits my lifestyle it would be:

The Perfect Android Phone Mashup

The Perfect Android Phone Mashup

Design: Nexus One form factor and weight.

Many N1 owners would concur the solid weight and sleek feel of that phone is superior (bring back the trackball!) I’m personally not a fan of the bulk a physical keyboard adds to the hardware so I can go without it. However, there are many people that love the functionality of a physical keyboard. This topic was derived from an interview I conducted with Sal Dhanani, Telenav Co-Founder and Vice President of Products, a global leader in mobile location-based applications; as we conversed he told me his perfect Android phone would be a Samsung Galaxy S2, with a keyboard and the GPS of an HTC phone.

Speed: Dual core processor.

I would have to go with the speed of the T-Mobile G2x, packing NVIDIA Tegra 2 dual-core 1GHz processors. Although the 1.2GHz dual cores from the HTC EVO 3D and HTC Sensation 4G are very tempting.

Screen quality and size of Samsung Galaxy S2.

The 4 inch screen size is a good balance of large and not too big like the 4.3+ doohickies in the market. So far the Super AMOLED Plus displays have been unmatched this year.

Unlocked freedom of a Nexus device.

I like stock Android without the carrier or OEM skins, whereas, I can download Android apps and customize my own phone. More important is no hassle Tethering and the ability to spark my own Wi-fi hotspot without paying a carrier a monthly fee to do so. Lastly, to be one of the first groups to receive software updates from Google versus waiting on wireless carriers.

Cameras: rear and front from a Samsung device with dual LED flash.

Samsung high definition cameras are strictly superior. Being the mobile-centric resource we are, we have opted for taking many of the product review photos and videos you see from mobile devices. I love the manual and auto focus from this brands’ camera which provides an excellent blend of hardware and software. The standard these days tosses a full 1080p HD camcorder or 5+ megapixel camera on the rear, while the front ranges from 1.3-2 megapixels. To make even these more awesome would be to double the rear and bring the front to at least 720p HD specs.

Mobile Internet Speeds.

That’s a no brainer… 4G, however, I choose Sprint’s WiMAX 4G! But what about Verizon’s 4G LTE? Nope, the price and location saturation of Sprint’s offering has been a winner for my travels the past few years.

Other nifty features…

  • Multimedia ports; HDMI & USB. Including wireless media sharing features such as DLNA.
  • Finger print reader and Webtop capable like Motorola Atrix 4G.
  • Kickstand from the EVO!

I like almost every detail you have except I would not want it on Sprint at all. I would want it on T-Mo and of course at 4G speeds. I am not sure about the WebTop capability as I will have to read more up on that one but the fingerprint reader would be awesome. The Nexus S 4G is the closest I’ve some to see my near perfect phone to date. Otherwise my current, the myTouch4G, is winner for now.

I’m happy with my HTC Desire HD, but I would add a dual-core processor, a kickstand, better screen resolution and a front facing camera. The finger print reader would be pretty cool too. Is it too soon for retina scanning? I think I’ve been watching too much Minority Report…
