Paintrala – SNS for painting is an awesome drawing app that can turn almost anyone into an artist. Drawing features only Samsung Android devices but it gives powerful tools to help you trace atop a picture from your phone’s gallery so you can turn those into hand drawings or paintings. Once you log into the app you can see amazing drawings others have done and compete in drawing contests. I drew the portrait above of myself in about ten minutes, read this review to see how you can too!

Pros

Great app to help you draw, color & paint drawings!
Features nifty tools for drawing including pens, markers, pencils and paint brushes; plus includes ‘palm rejection’ for no accidental marks.
Discover some breath-taking drawings from others in the app’s online community!
Features periodic drawing contests which really brings out some amazing and creative artwork!
Works great with the S Pen on devices like Galaxy Note 2 or Note 10.1!

Cons

Only compatible with Samsung Android devices for drawing.
Getting to the drawing screen “Art room” should be easier and more prominent to find.
Navigating the app could be more concise.
Wish it supported several drawing layers.

Features:

Paintrala SNS for painting allows you to create spectacular drawings and paintings from pictures on your phone. Clicking the lower row center button opens the “Art room”, tapping the pen icon in the top right sends you to the drawing screen. Tap the lower left icon to invoke the key feature (only available Samsung Android devices) which allows you to select a pic from your gallery or take one with the phone’s camera. Note: any other brand of Android phone can download, browse and even upload photos but not draw- this may cause much confusion and explains why you may see non-drawn pictures in the online drawing gallery.

From here you can choose how to manipulate your photo; be it pen or pencil sketch, color pencil, cartoon style, oil painting and more. These help remove all of the complexities from the photo to allow for easy tracing. Your primary tools for drawing/coloring are pen, fat & thin tip paint brush, pencil and marker; along with an eraser, undo/redo options and a convenient color picker tool. Aside of these tools the second icon on the lower row toggles your background picture so you can see your progress- I just wish the developers enhanced this feature more to toggle several layers like in Photoshop so you can really blend some fantastic drawings using layers. Lastly, you can upload your creations to share with on the network. Drawing with the app is not difficult, see the video below as it demonstrates how to draw Internet phenom, Psy, very well.

Usefulness:

Initially I thought of Paintrala as novel but for creatives, inspiring artists, those that want to learn to draw, or those with Samsung and especially an S Pen device- this app is awesome!

Ease of Use & Interface:

The navigation scheme could use some help, as it is not intuitive on how to go directly to the drawing screen on a ‘drawing app’. It needs some type of prompts for those using it without a Samsung device telling why they won’t be able to draw and but only contribute photographs. It’s a clean user interface, it just takes a few clicks to get there to the vitals.

Frequently Used:

I foresee this as occasional to frequent hobby usage.

Should you Download Paintrala – SNS for painting? Paintrala eases the complexity of drawing for newbies & novice, plus it’s fun to see the creations you can make and especially the awe-inspiring drawings others upload and submit to contests within the app. Though the drawing features only work for Samsung Android devices, other manufacturers’ devices can still download, view and even upload photos only- so you can experience the creative network. It’s a good recommend to creatives!
