Every time a new Android device is released, users, the media and techies use online spaces to flutter about battery life. Everyone has an opinion. Here’s mine: if I can make it through a day with average usage I’m happy. I charge my Nexus 4 overnight and it’s ability to last that long is imperative. There are ultimately very, very few devices that have batteries that are not somehow moaned about and until manufacturers throw in batteries that will last 24 hours on heavy usage, handy little apps like Optimus Battery Saver Free can help squeeze the most out of what we have got.
First and fore-mostly, the app is irreducibly simple to use. The upshot of this, it would soundly suit Android beginners or those who want simplicity over complexity. There are lots of detailed and powerful apps out there; take Tasker for example, that can allow you to do all kind of clever things in order to save battery, this is different. It’s very easy to use and everything is far clearer than with other such applications. If you therefore have a family member who isn’t particularly technologically-minded, this would be ideal for them. Additionally, if you want to save battery but haven’t the time to faff with intricate settings, this too might be a great option.
When you open the app, you essentially meet a dashboard with a list of options in front of you:
- General: This is a general profile that can dictate Wi-Fi, data and screen behaviour.
- Night: This mode is allows you to switch off Wi-Fi and data during preset hours.
- Super Saving: If your battery hits, say 15%, you can ensure what you have left lasts as long as possible by disabling the Wi-Fi and data connections.
- Weekend and Rush Hour modes are activated only when you get the Pro version of the app. These will allow you to add extra profile settings for when you’re likely to be off work or on the way to work, where setting may differ from usual mid-week behaviour.
With such straightforward settings, it’s certainly easy to use. I noted some of the dialogue could be a little clearer to understand in-app, but this aside everything is simple to use and implement.

If you find yourself regularly running out of battery at the end of the day, and would perhaps like your device to last a little bit longer, this is a quick and easy solution.
Ease of Use:
It’s not as powerful as other apps in the Google Play Store, but it is arguably the easiest to use and configure.
The app is easily something that can help manage your battery on a daily basis. It could be something that runs quietly in the background making the most of the juice you have!
The interface is very, very simplistic. On one hand it is probably too simplistic for some users. However, if you need something really straightforward, this is a superb solution.
