NetQin Anti-virus for Android is a smart all-in-one security solution for smartphone. It provides anti-virus scanning, real-time protection, contacts back-up and an ‘Anti-lost’ function that helps locate and control your phone if it *gulp* goes missing.

Features:

It has always been my belief that anti-virus software, whether it be for your home computer or smartphone, should be ‘seen but not heard’. That is, it should be there, occasionally showing it’s face for your confidence but besides that, quiet and unobtrusive. It is perhaps a function you want to be able to switch on and forget about, and only consider it again if you have a problem.

Initially, NetQin Anti-virus will don it’s rubber gloves and provide your phone with a deep and intimate scan of every last file on your phone. It can scan both your files and your ’Cloud’ applications. After (hopefully) giving your phone the ‘all-clear’ it gets on with its job of protecting, like a discreet, yet burly, security guard that respects your privacy.

The real-time protection pops up automatically whenever you download an app from the market, which is reassuring. The contacts back-up, to a NetQin server and/or your SD card, is a nice idea, although I found my contacts mainly derive from my Gmail, Facebook and Twitter accounts which load automatically when I sync. The Anti-lost function is there for the worse-case-scenario; you lose your phone, or have it stolen. From this you can send messages, from another phone, which can locate, lock and message your lost phone. Ever dropped your phone down the back of the sofa, or hidden it under a mass of paperwork? The NetQin Anti-virus software will set off an alarm to help you find it- especially useful if your phone was on silent when you last had it.

NetQin Anti-virus lacks a website interface that allows you to perform these functions without needing another phone, but this doesn’t hinder usage and really just a matter of preference.

Frequently Used & Usefulness:

Unlike other applications on your phone, you probably won’t be using NetQin Anti-virus every day. You install it, you scan, you back-up and then forget about it all; safe in the knowledge that it’s there, in the background, doing it’s thing.

Ease of Use & Interface:

The menus and navigation are simple to use, and there is a wizard which guides you through the set-up process. The interface is clear and intuitive and would only be a challenge for the most technophobic.
