MySpace Mobile: Super Popular Android App, Super Sad Results
by Android Tapp
Dec 22, 2008 10:08 AM –
By the end of the 2008, MySpace Mobile will be the 3rd most downloaded appin the Android App Market (according to how Google’s App Market gauges Popularity). On a side note, many other blogs and websites have been regurgitating inaccurate stats from Fast Company’s article derived from a report by Medialets that Alex Muse of ShopSavvy oft refutes.
With between 50K-250K downloads, over 9K comments, an average Android App Market user rating of 3.5, and an average AndroidTapp.com Rating of 3 Android Tapps… where did this app go wrong? This is MySpace btw.
The Problem
We believe it’s because it’s MySpace they were able to produce such high download rates off their own name and popularity alone. But the app falls short of expectations. In our review of MySpace Mobile, we pointed out key flaws, it doesn’t have half the features as the mobile WAP version. Plus there has been numerous reports of login errors and the app is slow to load. Honestly, it seems like more of a status checker and photo uploader, but again… you can accomplish that on the go without the Android App. There is no added incentive to use the app.
Suggested Solutions
If you haven’t noticed on our website, we reach out to Android App Developers, and we will issue this question and suggested ITR, bug fix and feature enhancement list to MySpace Mobile developers (we’ll report back if we get a response):
- MySpace Mobile lacks the features of the mobile WAP version, such as; sending friend requests, blogging, bulletins, etc. Are there plans to match better yet… exceed the capabilities of the mobile WAP version?
- In addition to the above mentioned missing features, it would be a beneficial app if desktop features were ported over such as; creating an account from the device, MySpace music player, Chat or even Karaoke. Are there plans to add features such as these?
- There have be several reports of “login errors” and the app is “slow to load”, will this be addressed?
- When browsing MySpace website in mobile devices with full Internet browser capabilities, why is there forced redirection to the promo “Download MySpace Mobile” page when you specify you would like to browse as “View the desktop version” (i.e. when you try to log in)?
