Features:
My Kingdom for the Princess 3 combines strategy and time management into a fantasy setting, where you’re the youngest son trying to prove you deserve the hand of the princess by managing your stretch of land better than your brothers. It’s a nice mix of game elements, with things to collect, time management games, resource collection, and even strategy all coming into play. In the actual game play itself, I was really enjoying it.
There’s always a but though, isn’t there?
In my case, I had two issues, one minor, and one that had me getting frustrated after a short period of time. The minor one was that, having never played any of the games in the series before, I was coming into it brand new. After the opening movie played setting the stage for the story, I was on a screen with no clue where to go. I tried tapping on everything, and it wasn’t until an accidentally double-tap on a flag when I got frustrated that I couldn’t figure out how to actually play the game, I then found it. You’re supposed to double tap on those flags at the top to play the level, but since nothing in the game told me that, and I had never played any of the others in the series, I was almost to the point where I was ready to quit even before I started playing. Fortunately I found it, and now you know going in – double tap on the flags at the top, and ignore the little message that pops up after the first tap.
That was, to be honest, a minor thing. My bigger problem with the game was the really, really long load times. It started as soon as I downloaded the game. When you launch it the first time, it has to go grab more files, which is fine, I see this activity a lot lately with higher end games in the Google Play Store. However, it took the game a half hour to grab all the files, on a strong Wi-Fi connection. And during that time, trying to go do anything else canceled the download, so I had to start all over again. With interruptions, it took me more like an hour after getting the app from the Play Store before I could actually play it. Had that been the last of the long loads, I would have been mildly irritated, but would have gotten over it quickly. The problem is that I then had long load times, sitting on a black screen with the word “Loading” going between every single page. It didn’t matter if I was loading a new level in the game or trying to see my trophies. I sat for a good minute waiting for each area to load, every time. Once in an area it ran fine with no lag, but the long waits between everything really kind of killed some of my ability to enjoy the game.
Once I got past the issues, the game itself was pretty fun. It’s got a few different types of gameplay, ranging from sending your villagers/workers out to collect resources, and then when you have enough repair bridges to get to the end goals, to fending off wolves from reaching your houses. In the collection mode, you have to not only manage your time, trying to go fast enough to finish before it gets dark and beat the developer’s scores, but you also have to manage how you use those resources. Your workers can’t go out if there isn’t enough food for them. You can build a bridge to reach your goal if you don’t have enough wood, etc. And as you progress you can collect resources for new buildings too, giving you more and different types of workers, such as a hunting lodge that gives you a guy who can take care of wolves sitting between you and the resources you need. Another game type is one where the wolves are attacking, and you have to hit them before they get close to your buildings – the further back you catch them, the more points you get. So there’s a nice variety of different types of games to keep it from feeling repetitive, which is a good thing.
It’s also worth noting, at least, that the game is free to download from the Play market, and you can play it for a while free. But after a certain point you have to upgrade via in-game purchase to continue the game.

Fun Factor:
The actual game itself is really fun. It’s a nice mix of elements, and it changes things up enough from level to level that it doesn’t get boring. I enjoyed playing it.
Addictive:
It would be more addictive if it weren’t for the load times, to be honest. I could see this being a fun game to sit down and play whenever you have a few minutes, but my load times made it so I would have to plan longer chunks of time for it. In games like this, I want something I can play in small bites, whenever and wherever I am, and if they can just streamline it a bit, it will be that game.
Graphics:
You can tell this isn’t the first app for this developer, or even the first in the series. The graphics are polished and the whole app looks amazing. They did a great job with the look and feel.
Accelerometer, Vibration & Sound:
The soundtrack is pretty solid, and a good addition to the game. It’s nothing that would stand out on its own, but it adds to the gameplay. I also liked that the story elements had a narrator reading you the text – it’s a small addition, but it does make for a more complete-feeling game.
