
Verizon Wireless today announced the Motorola DROID X as the next series in the DROID smartphone saga to launch July 15 for $199. The phone packs a large 4.3 inch display and positioned for superior video capabilities including Blockbuster rentals with HD playback to TV via HDMI out and DLNA. Also comes with 8 megapixel HD camera with dual LED flash. Our prediction of Android 2.2 launch was off as it will launch with Android 2.1 with new custom MotoBlur (Android 2.2 Froyo and Flash update will come “later this summer”). Other hardware includes 8GB of memory on board and a 16GB card (Expandable to 40GB with a 32GB card), and 3 microphones; one for video, one for voice, and one for noise cancellation.
Powerful Software
Since there is no physical keyboard is has a multi-touch virtual keyboard and comes preloaded Swype keyboard. Corporate/business users will be happy it supports Microsoft Exchange and Gmail enterprise, push email, corporate directory, and remote management/wipe. Additional preloaded software includes V CAST video, NFL Mobile, Skype Mobile, and a Back-Up Assistant. Football fans will love NFL RedZone app which can stream full Thursday night games to the large screen.
Data Pricing & Upgrades
You have to fork over $29.99 for unlimited data plan, and additional $20 for Wi-Fi tethering on up to 5 devices that comes with an extra 2GB of data.
Existing Verizon customers can upgrade to DROID X if their plans ends 2010. ![]()

wow, i am surprised these Engadget guys don’t know how to use an android phone.
long press on any input box to change input methods and to do a “double letter” entry on Swype, you have to draw a little loop on the character or hold letter position for a half second. maybe i should work there. lol
