Monster Shooter is a deliciously deranged arcade shoot-em-up where you have to blast various monster-kind to gloppy chunks. Self described as “hand-drawn 2D ultra violence” it depicts complete carnage from the word ‘go’. Easy to play and wholly immersive it’s arguably one of the very best free games available on the Android Market.

Features:
Monster Shooter is a dual-stick 2D blaster with highly detailed graphics and animation, deeply immersive gameplay and 30 levels of utter destruction. You take the role of DumDum, angry at having his kitten kidnapped and subsequently on the warpath. As you progress there will be plenty of heavy-duty weaponry made available and a host of other in-level bonuses. Alien monsters come at you from 360 degrees so it’s better to keep moving and shooting all the time. It reminded me a lot actually of Weapon Chicken, or better, Age of Zombies and it sort of features a similar humour too.
There are two modes: Story mode where the quest to rescue kitty. Wade through 30 levels of blood and mayhem. Survival mode is all about staying alive for as long as possible. There is in-game cash which you can earn or buy via in-app purchases, and with it, you can get to build quite an exotic and terrifying arsenal of weaponry. In addition to mid-level health packs you can also pick up ammo bonuses which increase your shooting capacity for a short time.
Another reason to like this festival of blissfully ridiculous cartoon super-violence is the supporting website. Here you can check out videos, images and even downloadable wallpapers. The only small issue I had was that you do run out of ammo very quickly and need to reload- a nightmare if some bad-ass alien freaks are literally right up in your face and your chambers are empty! This aside (and, the argument that maybe I should be a little more frugal with my bullets) the game is an absolute riot and loads of fun. It’s free and works on most devices, it would be insane not to give it a look.

Fun Factor:
Absolutely loads of fun. It’s blisteringly paced and features completely mental carnage that doesn’t stop until every last baddie is soup. There are plenty of monsters to wipe out and a variety of exciting weapons to use. The game bursts with silliness but is a genuine adrenaline rush throughout.
Addictive:
Yes, once you start it’s pretty hard to stop. It would perhaps be a little more engrossing if you could hold more ammo, and didn’t have to reload as frequently, but this does add to the jeopardy and skill needed to progress through the levels. There are 30 awesome levels to navigate and with OpenFeint support; lots of missions, achievements and scores to accumulate.
Graphics:
The graphics are very detailed and hand-drawn (rich animator drawing rather than endearingly basic stick figures) and genuinely look stunning. A pure visceral treat that also seems to work well even on average Android devices.
Accelerometer, Vibration & Sound:
Sound is top-notch; cool music and a slurry of brilliant sound effects throughout the game. These compliment gameplay perfectly and are spot on.
