Pros & Cons:
Pros
- Breathtakingly realistic 3D graphics!
- Massive multi-player online action over Wi-Fi with Leaderboards! Unlike many that griped in Google Play, we experienced zero lag when playing online!
- Campaign mode features an engaging story with adrenaline pumping combat tactics and goals!
- Tons of weapons, even futuristic concept artillery that may or may not exist in reality!
- Realistic sound effects of soldiers cursing, groaning, communicating commands; shooting, explosions plus movie-grade & exhilarating music scores!
Cons
- When playing the campaign mode, we experienced graphics and audio stutters quite often (See the video review).
- Huge download… 1.9GB!!! But the scrumptious graphics more than out weigh the download cost.

Features:
Modern Combat 4: Zero Hour has been teased for quite some time by Gameloft before finally debuting on Android. It was well worth the wait as it is one of those games you refer to in highlighting the power of console gaming on a mobile device. Everything about this game is top-notch quality including graphics, shooting and hand-to-hand combat, blood spatter to indicate injury, weapons galore, voice acting, atmospheric and particle effects from war ridden explosions, to realistic sound effects and exhilarating music scores.
There are two gaming modes; “Campaign” missions following the storyline of elite soldiers searching and rescuing world leaders from a malicious terrorist group (plus you can role reverse and play as the villain, Edward Page) and “Multiplayer” for endless bouts of real-time battles against others around the world via Gameloft Live login. We never experienced any connections issues or lag as many have in Google Play. Strangely though, there was stutter in the campaign mode (where there were no need for dependence on an Internet connection.)

Modern Combat 4 Zero Hour Gameplay 1
The HUD has just enough information to glance at and not be in the way- including from top-left clockwise; Pause button, 360° Enemy Radar, Military Shop (up arrow) or Players in Game (available in Multiplayer mode), Crouch/Stand status, Gun with ammo count (tap to reload), throw Grenades, Fire button, Sniper shoot, Run/Walk toggle, notifications for guns available to pick up, Look/View direction control, and finally Crouch. As you play along you earn experience points called XP, which can be used in the Military Shop to upgrade weapons, ammo and attachments for your guns. If you don’t want to play and earn them, there is an option to buy credits with real cash that range from $1.99 to $99.99.
This game takes you on locations all around the world, you feast your eyes… well hands on some awesome weapons, and jump out of a few multi-million dollar vehicles in pursuit of the enemy. There are several options in the settings menu to control your character, however, we stuck with the default- which were simple and good. You can even change the difficulty settings and save various states within the campaign if needed.

Fun Factor & Addictive:
It could be a bit frustrating when you first start, but stick in there and it becomes the shoot ‘em up game you will come to love. For gamers familiar with the genre it will be instantly enjoyable & addictive. Playing the Campaign mode immerses you so deep, by the time you look up, 20-30 minutes will have easily gone by. The is the same in Multiplayer as well, plus you can keep these to shorter bursts if you can resist.
Graphics:
Modern Combat 4: Zero Hour exemplifies some of the best graphics you can throw at a smartphone or tablet. Sure you take the hit on downloading a huge game file, but the visuals warrant the wait.
Accelerometer, Vibration & Sound:
As mentioned the sound effects, voice acting (even those potty mouth soldiers) and music scores are in parallel with Hollywood blockbuster action films.
