Mobliza Text Answering Machine is a novel yet rather quite useful app for auto-replying to text messages. If you think of the immediacy of text messaging as the favoured form of communication, replying automatically (much like out-of-office automated email responses) is perhaps something you might consider useful. There are also various safety applications; such as replying while you are driving and customer service implications, such as replying to a client when you are in a meeting, etc.

Features:
Mobliza Text Answering Machine is, essentially, like an out-of-office notification service for text messages. Say you’re driving and unwilling to risk your life (and license) answering a text message someone sends you. You don’t want to seem rude by not replying, but it’s not a priority. You can easily set the service to reply to the SMS sender with a simple message that informs them you’re currently driving and therefore cannot answer, similar in ways to apps like DriveSafe.ly or Otter. It’s polite, and also means you might not get one 2 minutes later, and another… and another…
The app comes with two modes. Answering Machine is where, as described above, an automated response of your choosing. All messages are displayed in the notebook style area below, letting you know what has gone on, and who has texted you in an easy-to-read format. There are 13 different responses, from “hey NNN, I’m driving right now and can’t text back” and “hey NNN, I’m in class right now and can’t respond” to “sorry NNN, can’t talk right now”. You can also create your own message, using ‘NNN’ which is automatically substituted for the name of the texter.
The second mode is the Mobliza AI. This will automatically respond to people using the services own artificial intelligence. This is a basic responder which attempts to conduct a conversation with the other person. Good for laughs certainly. If they catch on, there are commands like ‘Tell me a joke’ which will get the AI to send them a basic joke. Obviously this a cool little feature for exchanging SMS with friends, although perhaps not if your boss is messaging you.
I really like the simplicity and effectiveness of the app, it’s easy to use and works very well. It’s a free app and has significant safety implications which are great- especially if you’re driving, etc. It’s straightforward to switch on and off too, so when you are available it won’t respond for you. While it’s useful, it’s also fun and worth playing around with the AI and testing it out. I’ve not encountered apps quite like this before and while I think the UI could use some polish, I also think it’s a neat little app to have on your device. Definitely give it a look.

Usefulness:
Incredibly useful if people are texting while you’re busy; driving, in a meeting, in class, etc. The service will reply on your behalf with a message of your choosing. It would perhaps be nice to see the option to customise messages based on different people. The reply message you send to your girlfriend might differ from the one you’d send to a client or your boss.
Ease of Use:
The app is very easy to use and navigate. I also like the notification in the status bar that lets you know the service is active.
Frequently Used:
This really depends on the user, and how often you might find yourself in a situation where autoreply is useful for your SMS messages. If you have a lot of meetings, drive a lot, etc. this is something you might use on a daily basis.
Interface:
The interface is functional, although not great. I think we’re coming to expect far slicker looking apps on your expensive smartphones and, while this isn’t the prettiest application, it works very well, it is very effective and can be fun too.
