Mobile Security & Antivirus is, quite clearly, a security app for Android. It is made by Bitdefender who we have already encountered before with apps like Power Tune-up. Bitdefender has essentially created a suite of handy apps which also includes cloud back ups and parental control software. This app provides a live malware scanner, application security audit, web security and anti-theft options to protect your device.
Price: Free Trial, $9.95/Annual

Features:
Bitdefender’s Mobile Security & Antivirus application is another security app that’s worth your consideration. Let’s be honest, if you use a security app, it’s probably something you do not give much consideration to once you have downloaded it and scanned your system. Security apps are essentially insurance policies and no one really wants to spend actual time thinking about “what if’s”.
It’s good then that Mobile Security & Antivirus is so very easy to use. You can just load it up, scan and be done with it. The app gives you the option to scan whenever the device mounts which is useful too, although perhaps not as useful as the ability to set scans to occur at regular intervals much like the feature included in the recently reviewed Avast! which is something missing from this app.
Another feature I quite like is the reassuring notification you get when you install a new app. Mobile Security & Antivirus just pops up and says the app is safe, etc. which is quite nice. Another useful features include an app audit, which can tell you specifically what permissions each app has, knowledge is power after all. Lastly there is an anti-theft solution added in to. This allows you to locate your device if it is lost or stolen, giving you critical control over your device even if it is lost. This feature is much like, although not quite as feature-rich as, Cerberus.
The two main issues I would have with Mobile Security & Antivirus is that firstly, it’s only a 14 day trial for the premium features which include web security and anti theft options. For the full suite it costs £8.99 or $9.95 (you clearly get a far better deal if you live in the US). My query here would be whether you need to pay around $10 for mobile security on a platform that is incredibly secure anyway and includes solutions that are either free or less expensive.
There is ‘research’ that suggests that there is a great deal of malware in the Android ecosystem but have you noticed that it always comes from security companies who then use the research for promotional reasons? Where’s the independent research? Simply put, if you use Google Play Store and do not side-load install dodgy APK’s from obscure pirating websites, you’re extremely unlikely to be infected. As a reviewer and an avid Android user since 2009, I’ve downloaded more apps than I could possibly remember and I have never encountered a single app that has contained a virus.
If you are concerned about such invasions and do want to use security applications- which, to be fair, do a job and give you peace of mind, then using an app like Mobile Security & Antivirus does mean you are putting all your eggs in one basket, which you might not be comfortable with.
All that said, for the security conscious, Mobile Security & Antivirus is a sound and reliable application that does give you that peace of mind with a range of features that can protect you from all angles. It is very easy to use and speedy so if you want a low-maintenance option you will struggle to find something better. Just think very seriously about the Pro services and whether you really need them.

Usefulness:
For keeping your device clean of nasties, this is a useful and easy-to-use tool. The app offers a range of different solutions that allow you to set up and forget about, hopefully never having to to use it. The app gives peace of mind knowing your Android is safe from malware and more.
Ease of Use:
The app wins big regarding ease of use. I’m not sure I’ve encountered an app so simple and straightforward to use. If you like to keep things uncomplicated, this is ideal.
Frequently Used:
Once you have scanned your device, you might only have to use it rarely to run reassuring additional scans or if you lose your device and have the additional features activated to relocate it if lost or stolen.
Interface:
The interface is easy on the eye and well designed, as are all of Bitdefenders range of applications. Even if it is ‘just’ a security app, if you value good looking software, you’ll appreciate the smoothness of Mobile Security & Antivirus.
