MKCommander is a powerful and feature-rich file manager application for Android devices. Including lots of customisations, in-depth file access and even a media player, MKCommander is certainly one of the most detailed file explorer applications available in the Google Play Store.
Price: Free
Tested on: HTC One X
Content Rating: Everyone
Pros & Cons:
Pros
- Fully customisable: fonts, sizes, layouts, colours and more!
- Intuitive navigation and controls!
- Book marking and history!
- Media player and picture viewer!
Cons
- UI is very intuitive but design looks a little dated.
- No built-in video player.
Features:
MKCommander is an extremely functional file explorer/manager application that’s both free to download and ad-free. Obvious features include the ability to explore your Android device in detail and copy/move/rename/delete files by long pressing them. Also, the app lets you zip files, which is a nice little addition.
If you are someone who uses file explorer apps a lot, you’ll be pleased to find that there is a great deal of preferences available to customise your experience of using the app. You can alter font size, width and colour, background colour, selected text colour and also gives you multiple layout options. New features include detailed grid customization, a scrollable directory bar (which makes navigation incredibly simple) and the ability to change the font sizes of these tools. It should be pointed out that this just touches the surface of this awesome little app, there’s lots to explore and jam packed with functionality.
I really liked the fact that navigation is so easy, I’ve used some file explorers before where it’s far too simple to get a little lost. With MKCommander, the use of icons and customized layouts mean you can change things to suit your own requirements. I also thought the included music player and picture viewer were very good, loading immediately and performing well. The app doesn’t, however, include a video player, so you might want to bear that in mind.
Navigation is further helped by the inclusion of a booking marking tool. Here you can simply ‘bookmark’ files or sections you might want to visit the most, saving lots of time in getting to the area you need. You can also utilise the history feature which shows where you have explored. This all makes the app very user-friendly and, although the UI looks a little dated, it’s very intuitive and simple to use.

Usefulness:
For exploring, editing and managing files, MKCommander is a powerful solution for your Android device. I think if you are an intermediate or advanced user, this is a great app to have. If you’re an absolute beginner, however, this isn’t going to do much for you.
Ease of Use:
With the inclusion of various customisations, layout settings and bookmarking, MKCommander is far easier to use than other file explorer apps I’ve encountered. It might take a little tweaking to get it the way you want, but once set up navigation and control is superb throughout.
Frequently Used:
I’ve always thought a file explorer app is something you either use all the time or once in a blue moon, depending on the kind of user you are. I know many advanced users who utilize file explorer apps all the time, certainly on a daily basis.
Interface:
The interface is massively functional and full of customisation and shortcuts for simple navigation. It’s an app that registers really high in user-friendliness. This aside, I did think it perhaps looked a little dated in terms of aesthetic design. I don’t think that should be a deal breaker however.
