AndroidTapp.com Android App Review:

Missed Call Android App is a great tool for notifying you of any missed Call, SMS Text Message, Blue Tooth service, Calendar service, and even Application service. You have the option to show the Notifications status icon and to Auto-start the app.

Missed Call Android App fills a void with Android which by default doesn’t offer adequate settings to be notified of missed calls or SMS text messages. There is just a flashing green LED light. Missed Call Android App allows you to configure notification services,  LED color and LED intervals, vibration and vibration intervals, sound… plus option to choose sound file, and repeat notification options.

The calendar notifications are not 100%. At the moment when an event reminder pops up you will get your custom LED notification. All the other notifications are disabled. In addition you have to stop the LED by sliding down the window shade status bar!

You have to deactivate the notifications in the default messaging applications or any other application that organizes your SMS. If you don’t do this you will get two notifications!

Tip on how to disable SMS notifications in other apps.

If using SMS apps like the default Messaging or ChompSMS:

  • Open Messaging app
  • Tapp “Menu” button
  • Tapp “Settings”
  • Tapp “Notifications”

Usefulness:

Missed Call Android App is very useful for those who are frustrated by not receiving adequate alerts of missed phone events. Gripe Alert: Although some alerts can be a little annoying as you have to slide the window shade down to stop the LED blinking light, this reassures that the app is doing its job.

Ease of Use & Interface:

Upon launch, Missed Call Android App is an app of settings menus you can configure to suit your alert needs. Operating the app is intuitive, and allows you to delve into more advanced settings.

Frequently Used:

Intended for daily use (plus it auto launches upon reboot and runs in the background).

This app will blink the phone’s LED whenever your attention is required. I no longer need to push any button to see if there are any notifications!!

After upgrading to latest version I’m having trouble with calendar notifications though: the LED does not blink :-( Is there a site to report bugs / ask for help?

I can’t make this work on my new Verizon droid. I’m looking for an app to make sms messages ring until read. I need this so my droid can be a pager. I have tried to trouble shoot based on notes on this page with no luck. any ideas? even if the idea is another app. thanks

You go to the android market on your phone (an app called, “market”) and search for “Missed Call.” Of the results that come up, one will have an orange icon – that’s the correct version.

I can not get the green checks to appear on the missed call options page. The page with all the services listed. I have click on Call Setting and enable the missed calls and incoming calls. But still can not get the green checks to appear. Also the LED doesn’t flash when I test the app by calling my phone and let it missed the call. Or by sending text message ethier. Yes I disabled the message notifications as you suggested

On the Verizon Motorola Droid the works sporadically. For example I setup the Missed Call server to vibrate and play a sound every 10 min when I miss a call, after clearing the call from my notification bar up top the phone continued to vibrate and play the sound.

I hope the developer can test and debug this app, this should have been built into the phone. Please update, I know this stuff is not easy!!

I agree with it’s sporadic usefulness on the Motorola Droid. I’ve had it configured for probably 4-5 months now….it might notify me once if I have a missed call (by sound). and yes, it is figured correctly and to repeat every 5 minutes.

Disappointed…….but I’m having a lot of disappontements with the Droid….

You don’t NEED a reminder for voicemail. To get voicemail you have to miss a call. There is a reminder for missed calls.

You have a bug in version 0.9.2:

For SMS, if there are more than one SMS, it shows the right number of unread sms in the notification bar but it only displays the newest one if you pull down the notification bar. Problem by that: Once it’s read, it does not disappear, and the other new sms are never see through the notification and have to be found in the default sms program.

    Example:

    SMS_1 comes in at 8pm
    SMS_2 comes in at 9pm
    SMS_3 comes in at 10pm

Now I unlock the mobile and see the number 3 in the notification (# new sms’), I drag down the notification bar and it shows me SMS_3.

So far so good, but now the problem starts:

The number goes down to 2 (logically because only SMS_3 has been read so far).
But when I pull down the notification and want to read SMS_2 and SMS_1, this is not possible, it only shows me the last one (SMS_3).

This is a kind of deadlock. I will never be able to read SMS_1 or SMS_2 through the notification bar. I’d have to go to the default SMS program and look for unread sms (bold font).

Hope this helps isolating the source of the bug

    Have a nice day,

    Patrick

    Hi,

Using this application is it possible to disable any notification when i get a call ?

I mean, i would like that when some selected contacts call me, nothing happens, at least i would like the screen to keep being switched off, is it possible ?

do you know any other application to avoid my Nexus one screen so switch on when having notifications ?

    Thanks for help.

There’s an easier option already built into your Nexus One. Go to the contact » hit Menu button then Options » check “Incoming calls Send calls directly to voicemail”. The phone will never ring nor light up when that person calls. You’ll have to check your window shade status bar, voicemail or call log to know they called.

I installed on HTC Desire, configured against a few of my contact numbers. Never could get any sounds to alert me that I had missed a call. Had to uninstall.
Did I miss an important step?

I would love to have an app that has the features of “missed call” but applies to any incoming call without having to identify specific numbers. What if I miss a call from a new number? I want to know about that one as well but it seems like missed call would not work in this case.

This app seems to be abandoned by its developer. The last tweet from @missed_call in oct. 2011 was a call for help to develop the app in an open-source setting. I have not found another app that does the same thing as simply and reliably as this one does. Tasker (net.dinglisch.android.taskerm) can accomplish everything missed call does, but only with extensive programming. The combination of WhoIsIt (com.handyandy.whoisit) and Missed Call Reminder (idv.wangyik.MissedCallReminder) comes close, but it’s two settings to change instead of one for each contact, and WhoIsIt has stability problems (i.e. background service crashes silently, leaving you in the dark).

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to duplicate this app’s functionality on a modern Android build? (ie 4.0+)
