AndroidTapp.com Android App Review:

Pros & Cons:

Pros

  • Allows you to upload various files from your Android and post them on the Minus social network, or share them through the usual channels!
  • File types include: documents, music files, video files, photographs!
  • Plenty of share options!
  • Lets you upload now, but publish to the website later!
  • Website account which operates as a basic social network, and lets you drag and drop files into the browser!
  • Beautiful interface!
  • Original idea!

Cons

  • Unable to view pictures on device through the application, you might need to name pics previously to know which ones to upload.

Minus is an original file sharing application that allows you to send photos, videos, music files and documents. It features a  simple design, an additional website interface and numerous options to share your files between your family and friends.

Since we reviewed Minus several months ago now, the app has moved on in leaps and bounds, deeming it necessary to give this piece an update. Such a transformation has taken place it’s tricky knowing where to start!

Features:

Firstly, the UI has been given a huge overhaul. It is now a slick, responsive and beautiful environment that is easy to use and extremely user-friendly. Previously I found the app to be relatively unstable but these issues have now been completely eradicated. Not only is Minus now wholly stable it is also highly intuitive and easy to use.

There is now much more to the app than previously. Most notable perhaps is the new picture editing suite which lets you tweak and customise your images in a variety of ways. Much like you get with dedicated photo sharing applications such as Streamzoo and Lightbox Photos, Minus lets you add filters and effects. Supported by Aviary, you can additionally control brightness, contrast and saturation, add stickers and text, change orientation, crop, remove red-eye and draw- all from within the Minus app itself. All this works flawlessly and is far easier to use than some dedicated photography applications.

The app is even more social than it was before. You can share your files easily via all the usual channels and social networks or simply through the Minus service itself. Like any other social network you can have followers and be followed, ‘like’ things and even download shared files. It is an incredibly smooth and flawless experience that is not only responsive but is genuinely enjoyable to use. There is also an ‘Explore’ tab. This lets you browse through shared content from around the world.

Besides the name and the ambition, it’s hard to recognize the first version of Minus I reviewed. I’m pleased to say that, at the time, I felt it had masses of potential and it would appear now that potential has been just about realised. It’s very difficult to even pick one hole in this resolutely comprehensive and useful app. However I did notice that, when you upload pictures from within the app, the pictures are not shown, you simply get a picture icon and the title. While this is no biggie, and you could just share to Minus from your gallery application, it would mean giving your pictures a title is essential if you want to natively upload.

Minus is now a staggeringly useful, fun, social, functional and great-looking service. For sharing pictures, documents, video and music files it goes pretty-much unrivalled. I have now hesitation in recommending readers give this a well deserved second look.

Usefulness:

Photo sharing applications are abundant in both the Android Market and online, but this is a nice idea for being able to share multiple types of file in one place. The additional web interface is great and the two sync well. If you like sharing your favourite snaps or want to upload your band’s new demo track to share with friends, Minus is the perfect solution.

Ease of Use:

Minus is a very straightforward and simple to use application. Gone are the stability issues of the past and now it is a comprehensive, intuitive and fun app to use; both on the web and in the app itself.

Frequently Used:

Minus is a good all-in-one service for sharing files amongst your family and friends. There are plenty of app that let you share pictures and videos, a few that let you share documents, fewer still let you share music files. None however that I am aware of let you share all of these in the way that Minus does. There is lots of application here and the app is easily something you would use on a regular basis.

Interface:

After the recent overhaul Minus is now a truly beautiful app, full of slickness and perfectly weighted transitions. There is now a splash of colour, new tabs and features to access. For it’s type of app, you do not get much better anywhere.
