Features:
MindSoft Cache Cleaner aims to speed up your Droid by clearing internal memory cache some Android apps store and browser history. I won’t go into whether or not you actually need a cache cleaner in Android here, rather, I’ll take a look at this specific app’s abilities. In the free version, you can clear the browser history, with the pro version bringing a much wider range of things you can manage, including the search history for the Android Market, Maps and Gmail, call and text message history and application caches. You can select which of the types of caches you want cleared, and at the top of the screen the app will tell you how much memory you will free up, which is nice to see.
However, in practice, I had a lot of problems running this app. Every time I tried to go into settings to set up the automatic cleaning schedule, the app went black, and about half the time I got a force-close message and the other half required a hard reboot of my device to clear it – it had frozen the OS completely. To get back into the app after each force-close (that didn’t require a reboot) I actually had to use my built-in task manager in my tablet’s OS to clear my application cache to get the app to start fresh again, ironic considering what it actually does.

Usefulness:
To be honest, I question how useful this type of app is anyway, but again, I’m trying hard to keep that out of this review. However, in this particular category, I have to be honest – while it can help to free up a little bit of memory, the things it cleans really aren’t huge files. And if you do decide to clear your search or browser history, you can do it from the apps themselves, or, in many ROMs both direct from the manufacturers and in most of the custom ROMs available, task managers are included which do exactly the same thing.
Ease of Use:
The app is very easy to use. You just select the items you want cleared and tell it to go. Setting up the automatic schedule is very easy as well, with just a few clicks to get it up and running. However, I did have force close issues, which made it quite a bit more frustrating to use than it needed to be.
Frequently Used:
If you’re an obsessive cleaner, you could be running the background process as often as once a day, or you could just use it every now and then if you notice your device is running a bit slow and you don’t want to reboot it to reset the memory.
Interface:
The interface is pretty clean, with simple check boxes to select which items you want to clean. I did find it a bit jarring that the app background is white, and the only other screen in the app, the settings menu, is black. It felt like two different apps. In settings, the only thing you can do is set up the schedule, and I would have liked to see a bit more options to fine-tune what and how you clean items instead. Something along the lines of clearing browser history older than 30 days, for example, would be a nice thing to have.
