Market Unlocker is a cool app that let’s you unlock access to Android apps not available in your country. While it does require device root access, it is pretty easy to use and works well. So, if you’re frustrated with the limitations you have accessing certain apps, this is a very neat workaround.
Price: Free
Tested on: Rooted HTC Desire HD
Content Rating: Everyone
Pros & Cons:
Pros
- Let’s you access apps you can’t normally download, or those only available to the U.S.!
- Market switching is simple and effective!
Cons
- Proxy setting for Amazon Market might be a bit tricky for some.
Features:
Not being able to download the latest Android apps is pretty annoying. Sadly, Google have made a regular habit of frequently making services ‘only available in the U.S.‘
For example, they spent some time introducing Google Music, how great it was, what it could do, all its benefits and then, like an afterthought, there was a muffled *oh, and you can only get it in the U.S.* Same with Google Currents… and Schemer… and Google Books… I hate it when they do that!
If you have a rooted device, however, you can get around this. Market Unlocker essentially lets you fake your carrier in order to access location specific Android Markets. Useful for people who live outside the US to get their hands on apps not available in their native country. Also, while there are still limitations on whether residents of some countries can access paid apps (we even wrote a workaround for that), this is a neat way to access loads more games and applications.
The app is relatively easy to use- I mean, if you’ve rooted your device, this is a pretty straightforward endeavour. Simply choose which ‘Market’ you want by selecting your device to ‘fake’ a carrier and away you go. It’s easy to switch back to your default Market if you need to and there are handy toggle controls to do this.
The app can also help you access and download Amazon apps. Yet another service which is only available in the U.S., by using a U.S. proxy through the app, you can access and download the free Apps of the Day, as long as you have the AppStore app installed. This is a little trickier to instigate and requires you to find a suitable U.S. proxy to get it to work… Still, Amazon usually has some pretty neat Free apps so it’s surely worth it.

Usefulness:
If you want to access paid for apps or anything Google decides to release next
Market Unlocker is an essential tool for making this possible.
Ease of Use:
Switching Markets is very easy indeed and only takes a few seconds. There’s lots of options to choose from and plenty of control. Setting up a proxy to access the Amazon Market is trickier, however, and requires you to find a suitable proxy first.
Frequently Used:
It is a tool you might use regularly to access unavailable apps, or the Free Apps of the Day on Amazon.
Interface:
The interface is very basic, not particularly great to look at but aesthetics are hardly important in an app like this.
