MANUGANU is a platform running game where you control a little adventurous boy to dodge all sorts of dangerous obstacles by jumping, flipping, swinging, sliding, gliding and bashing your way to the finish line unscathed and in record times while collecting blue coins and medallions. This running game differs as it allows you to halt from the continuous run, is it enough to challenge other top games? Let’s find out in the review!
Price: Free
Tested on: Nexus 7
Content Rating: Everyone
Pros & Cons:
Pros
- Lush 3D graphic worlds are rendered beautifully!
- Super fun, hyper addictive platform running game!
- Easy to pick up and play!
- Easy to finish levels, however, quite tricky to perform three star goals!
- Alternative paths to finish!
Cons
- Original music track is good, yet the singular track gets stale.
- I wish there were more levels and worlds… hopefully more coming soon.
Features:
Follow the brave adventure of young Manuganu as he collects blue coins and medallions while dodging creatures, booby traps, and dangerous elements. I can’t help but be reminded of the fabulously addictive Rayman Jungle Run when playing- yet this title differs a bit. Along this journey our protagonist learns new powers besides just run & jump; he can double jump, slide under crevices, scale ropes, ping pong up or down walls, hang glide, break stone blocks and the differentiation among running games- halt. Controls are simple with just two on-screen keys to jump or stop plus finger swipe gestures. It features 30 different levels in 3 worlds (I wish there were more!)
As you play you are gradually introduced to new abilities represented by the question mark, which illustrates how to use the new power. For example, double tapping gets the character to double jump, and can be very useful for scaling high platforms or distance jumping. You swipe down to slide under things, tap the “X” button to halt or hold this button after a jump to hang glide.

Manuganu Gameplay 9
Gameplay is quite clever as you avoid rather spiky enemies and traps, behemoth swinging hammers and stones, moving ice glaciers, bounce on giant mushrooms, break through stones or break to move blocks, plus you shift directions and have alternate routes to get to the finish line. If you hit an obstacle unfortunately little Manuganu expires and you see his soul float away. After which you restart from the last checkpoint rather than all the way from the beginning, you get 3 lives before the game is over.
Manuganu is a fun and addictive title that pushes you to repeat levels to try and collect all three gold stars. These goals get tough as some levels require you to collect a certain number of blue coins, beat a swift time, and not die. This is where finding alternate routes and perfecting your timing and memory dexterity skills come into play.
The 3D graphics illustrate his strange world splendidly! From the pathways he runs on (like fossil dinosaur bones), shifting boulders, mountainous to icy terrain, fiery flames, particle effects when collecting coins on down to the foggy abyss are rendered extremely colorful and well. The game features an original soundtrack with aiding sound effects, however, there is only the lone track and it can become quite repetitious in prolonged gameplay.
