Features:
Liquid Fare is a social bar hopping application for Android users. It allows you to rank bars based on hotness, average age, and crowd type. The app also allows you to search bars by location, sort by all three categories, and to create a favorites list of the bars that you prefer the most.
You to log in to the application as either a guest, with a Liquid Fare account, or using your Facebook. I recommend logging into this application with your Facebook account in order to prevent yourself from having yet another user account to keep track of. It is important to log in as a user of Liquid Fare instead of as a Guest, because Guests do not have access to many of the features. Once logged in, you are able to save favorite locations and change preferences for the application.
Preference changing allows you to select from various sorting options. Some of these options include adding or removing different types of bars such as pubs, clubs, adult clubs, or homosexual bars. This allows you to choose locations that best fit your personal preference for nightlife and to only see bars that are relevant for you.
In the application each bar is ranked on three categories: hotness, age, and crowd type. Bars are rated on a 1 to 5 scale for the hotness category with appropriate pictures for each number on the scale. Bars on the lower end of the spectrum will show older unattractive women as the bars icon, and bars on the higher end of the spectrum will show a younger hottie. Allowing you to see at a glance which bars have the most attractive crowd.
Once you click on a bar you are interested in you are able to see further details. These include the average age of the crowd at the bar as well as the style of it. For instance bars can be classified as biker bars, frat bars, dive bars, etc. Allowing you to see the atmosphere of the bar and what kind of people are likely to be there.
You can also sort the application by each of these attributes in order to see the ones that you care about the most. Unfortunately, the favorites option did not work for me during the testing of this application. I was able to add bars to my favorites, but when I accessed the favorites portion of the application it would show only a solid fuzzy bar on the screen as can be viewed in the screenshot in the gallery.

Usefulness:
The concept of Liquid Fare could be very useful for college students, date seekers, and people who like to creep in public places I found the application to not have gained enough users to provide any use for the end user. In my area only about 5 bars were rated and all of them, but one had received horrible ratings.
Although my bar hopping days have passed I could envision how this application would be more useful and would catch on with more users if it had better features. In the current state it can only be used to rate bars given the parameters defined in the application hotness, age, and bar type. In order to gain more users it should allow user comments and photos taken at the nightclub or bar to be uploaded to their server and shared with other users.
This feature might require a “high maturity” rating in order to be used in the Android Market it would definitely increase the draw of this application to the public and could allow it to see real success with the college crowd.
Ease of Use:
The app is extremely easy to use. I am especially happy that the developers allow you to log into the application using your Facebook account, because it prevents the user from having to sign up for yet another social service account. It is also beneficial for the developer because it allows them to get more information on the type of people who are using their application.
Frequently Used:
I personally would never use this application again, but that is because I am a soon to be married man who does not need to be going to bars and rating the crowd. However, if I was a college student I could see using this application pretty heavily; especially for the newly 21 crowd who is always looking for the biggest party and the sexiest crowd. If you are a single college male on the prowl or a woman with a cougar sense this application may be a frequent flier.
Interface:
The interface should be revamped in a few ways. First, they should include the option for users to add in comments and photos for each bar in the application. Without comments and photos the application is pretty much void of the social interaction it requires to really take off. With those additions this application could really flourish allowing users to take photos of the people in the club and comment on them amongst each other making an elite crowd that would encourage social participation.
Another thing that needs to be fixed is the favorites list. When I attempted to access this portion of the application I was unable to see anything except a red bar. There was no list of bars added to my favorites list and no readable or viewable icons on the screen. This is definitely a key feature that needs to be fixed in the application’s next update.
