Linda File Manager formerly “Android File Manager”. Install apk files from the SD Card directly, open files (video, audio, pics, text, etc.), use any apps you have installed, set wallpaper/ringtone from any position of SD card. Supports file unzip <10MB, and view local HTML by browsers (limit 8KB).

AndroidTapp.com Review:

Features:

  • Linda File Manager allows you to view and manage files on your SD Card or phone’s Internal memory (do so with caution)
  • Create new folders
  • Open, Open With, Copy, Cut, Paste, Delete, Rename, and show Properties for files on Android
  • Quickly jump to the “Top” directory if you get lost drilling down into folders
  • Change View style: Thumbnails, Icons, List, and Details
  • Sort by: Name, Size, Type, and Date Modified
  • Applications Manager (Beta) which allows you to remove apps (do so with caution)
  • Task Manager (Beta) allows you to see want background proccesses are running on Android and alloted free Internal Memory

Usefulness:

Linda File Manager is very useful when you want to manage files on your Android device.

Gripe Alert: Unsure if it’s the app or Android OS quirk, we wanted to append a part 2 of the popular blog post “How to Save YouTube Videos on your G1” without a computer and use Linda File Manager to Rename and Move videos downloaded and saved from YouTube (because the default name is “videoplayback.mp4″, “videoplayback1.mp4″, videoplayback2.mp4″,  etc.) to something more descriptive. You can Rename and Move it but it will not playback in the Android Video/Media players.

Ease of Use, Frequently Used & Interface:

Linda File Manager has a simple and intuitive user interface, thus making it easy to use and navigate. Not an everyday use app but definitely useful!

I’m replacing my broken Ipod with this phone for music and, I just bought a 16 gig card. I’m curious, is this is the best program that you would recommend to manage the music?

I have a question and it may seem simple and more of a hardware issue. All over the internet people tell me they have 70M of memory or thereabout. That doesnt make sense. I click on the linda tools and then task mgr and I se at time 21M or even at times 17M. I have added a partion on my sd card for swap and ext4 and still I am always at a low number on the memory. What exaxtly does the mytouch have in memory that the task mgr is looking at? If all my appps are residing on the sd card and I have only a couple of items in memory – why is the memory so low on my phone? What is the norm on the memory for the mytouch in the task mgr using this linda file mgr? I am aware that disc space and memory are 2 different things but it doesnt make sense when I hear others saying they have 70M of memory.

You have a good point, I too have noticed this. When I factor reset my G1 (with has the same internal storage for apps an MyTouch of 192MB), with no apps installed it says 70MB available. My assuption is that the Android OS shares this 192MB storage, taking up 122MB and leaving about 70MB on a clean phone for apps.
