LG Nitro HD debuts on AT&T’s 4G LTE network and blazes just as fast under the hood with dual core 1.5GHz processor.
But LG tell you, the apex feature of this Android smartphone is the screen… in all its 4 and a half inch high definition glory (16×9 aspect ratio & 1280 x 720 resolution). The LG Nitro HD can act as a mobile HotSpot sharing a 4G connection with up to 8 devices. Plus you can created memories in HD with its rear-facing 8 megapixel camera and even video chat with front-facing 1 megapixel camcorder.
Price: $249.99 Now $49.99 with two year agreement
Carrier: AT&T (Exclusive)
Pros
- Blazing fast phone!
- Fast 4G LTE Internet!
- Big and lively 4.5 inch Super AMOLED screen!
- Superb rear camera capable of capturing 1080p full HD video!
- Features advance camera settings to improve photo quality!
- Thin and light-weight!
Cons
- Battery drains fast, you must implore battery saving solutions in order to get it to last a full day.
- Few ergonomic design flaws with the power button and charging port placement.
Design
The first thing you notice about the LG Nitro HD is how light it is and how big and bright that screen illuminates. It almost feels like a toy or a dummy phone, such as those T-Mobile shows you in their stores (major #fail btw for T-Mo).
We can yap about all the techno jargon the screen has- bottomline it’s just vivid! Colors and contrast just pop.
One ergonomic niggle it has regarding the design is, due to the larger form factor of the phone, and more importantly, the Power or Sleep/Wake button is on the top right. So if you’re accustomed to operating your phone with one hand; your right hand, it requires either some agility in a awkward reach or you shuffling the phone around to toggle the button.
I personally don’t care for the location of the USB charging port as well, inconveniently placed on the top of the device with a tiny protective door you must open each time. I personally feel every smartphone should be standardized by making charging ports on the bottom. It makes for charging the phone in a car cradle difficult.

Simply Amazing Camera

Celebrity Photographer Tyler Shields Commissioned to Photograph with LG Nitro HD
The optics on the rear camera are some of the best I’ve seen in a while. The 8 megapixel camera snaps stunning photos, there’s no wonder why LG held a special launch even in New York with celebrity photographer Tyler Shields, challenging folks to determine which photos were snapped with the Nitro. What expands the optics are the advanced settings you can configure; excellent for the mobile photography professional. Such as changing white balance, adjusting contrast & saturation, toggle geo-location, and much more.
Blazing Fast 4G LTE Internet
With many impressive perks that phone has, I must tip my hat to AT&T’s new 4G LTE mobile broadband network. You can see from the screenshot of the speeds we were achieving in Chicago at various places. Also check out the 4G face-off we conducted in the video below.

This amounts for a fast web browsing experience, streaming YouTube videos or Pandora music was without slow buffing issues; even downloading large Android apps or their asset files (such as with Asphalt 6 or Dark Legends) could be done without being forced only on Wi-Fi.
Performance
The LG Nitro HD is super light-weight, but don’t let its nimble pounds deceive the power it has. Packing a dual core 1.5 GHz processor, it blazed through any HD games for Android we threw at it. One side effect I did notice was how hot the camera area got when you played processor intense games. My theory and fear is that prolonged heat in that area could affect or damage the optics of the camera.
Battery Life
With all this greatness comes sacrifice I guess. Under normal usage, I could not get the phone to last the entire day… more like 8-10 hours. The phone constantly thirsts for a charge. If you have the LG Nitro HD, I strongly recommend you practice some of our battery saving tips and even install some of these battery power saving apps to stretch usage through an entire day.
