AndroidTapp.com Android Game Review:

Pros & Cons:

Pros

  • Gameplay is a mix of strategy and action tactics!
  • There are multiple missions, characters and power-ups to unlock!
  • Characters can be leveled up and customized as you play!

Cons

  • There are a lot of things that you need either coins or crystals to unlock and/or purchase.
  • The levels all look alike, even though the missions for them change.

Features:

I love a good action RPG game, and Legendary Heroes combines that category with a strategy-based game, which is a good mix on the mobile format. In this case, you start out with a few basic heroes, all with nothing more than basic skills. As you play with them, they level up, and you can teach them various abilities in addition to them getting stronger. I really liked this aspect of the game, since it means each person can really customize their own style of play. You also get to choose three heroes for each round of play. You only control one at a time – the other two are computer controlled, and you can switch easily between them as you play, or just play one and let the others be NPC warriors, however you prefer. I do like that when the hero you’re playing dies, you automatically switch to the next closest hero still living, so you’re still up where the action is.

Heroes do respawn, but they do so at the very beginning of the level, and they then have to run back to the other side of the map where most of the action takes place. Each time they die, it takes them a little longer to respawn. This adds another element of challenge, and gives you a reason to go back and play maps you’ve already cleared to work on leveling heroes up so they don’t die as often.

The missions change for each level, and are things like making sure X% more of your enemy dies than your heroes, for example. The physical objective is always the same – destroy your enemy’s towers before they destroy yours. The fact that there are other objectives that change is nice, since it means you don’t necessarily feel like you’re playing the same thing over and over. I do wish that there was a bit more variety in the physical action, since I admit it did get a bit boring after a while, but that was a small complaint.

One thing that irritated me is that the game shows you all these great power-ups and characters you can unlock and buy, but they are very expensive. You earn coins each time you complete a level, and a few crystals the first time you complete every mission in a new map. But to be honest, what you earn isn’t enough to really “buy” much, unless you play the same map a lot to try and stockpile. And even then, it will just be coins, since you can only earn crystals the first time a map is marked complete. Of course, you can purchase coins or crystals with real money, and I do understand the trade off in a free game is that you have to pay for something, somewhere. There are no ads, so this is how they’re doing it. Personally, though, I’d rather have an ad or two in an unobtrusive place. Still have in-game purchases available of course, but offer more opportunity to earn the currency in the game itself. Again, in the grand scheme of things, this is a very small complaint in an otherwise great game.

Fun Factor:

If you enjoy a good strategy/tower capture game, and/or a good RPG, there are elements of both here that you will enjoy. It is well done, and there are enough different ways to play and manage your characters that it keeps it interesting. I love games like this, and I found myself playing it a lot longer and later into the night than I thought I would!

Addictive:

The developers got it right here – they understand that people like to have objectives, and they like to be able to see something for their time put into the game. By having maps, missions and even characters that you can unlock over time, then level up and customize, there is enough here to keep you coming back.

Graphics:

I was pretty impressed with the graphics. They are well done, and would be at home on any of the 3D consoles today. Obviously, they’re at a level that can run on a mobile device, but you wouldn’t necessarily know it was a phone game if you just saw a screenshot. It is well made, and really shows the time and effort the developers put into making it look as good as the gameplay is interesting.

Accelerometer, Vibration & Sound:

There is no accelerometer or vibration action here – it’s all done on the touch screen. And the soundtrack is exactly what you’d expect. Something suitably heroic and warlike.

Should you Download Legendary Heroes? Yes! While there are a few very minor issues, overall, there’s not much more you could ask for in a game of this genre. It’s well-made, beautiful, and offers enough ways to customize the gameplay to your personal style to suit most players. It’s well-worth downloading and checking it out!
