Left Lane Looey Road Rage Racing is a neatly animated 2D racing game that sees you helping Looey deliver chickens while trying to keep his cool in heavy traffic. Y’see, Looey gets road rage… really bad. Manoeuvre through traffic as fast as you can and avoid Looey losing it completely!
Price: Free or $0.99 for the full version
Tested on: Nexus 4
Content Rating: Low Maturity
Pros & Cons:
Pros
- Well animated graphics!
- Lots of weapons and bonuses!
- Challenging and fun!
Cons
- Control method is not as responsive as it needs to be.
Features:
Left Lane Looey Road Rage Racing gives you two distinct objectives. 1, get through the traffic as quickly as possible before the frozen chickens melt (etc) and 2, keep Looey from losing his temper completely. To say this guy has high blood pressure is an understatement- when he loses his head… he literally loses his head. So, you need to move through traffic quickly and with as few incidents as possible.
You control Looey’s vehicle via a controller on the left hand of the screen. You can move him up and down to avoid traffic as well as forward to increase speed and backwards to brake. Unfortunately this is where I found a niggling issue. The controls veer between very sensitive and slightly unresponsive. This means the challenge of dodging traffic is perhaps more difficult that it needs to be and you tend to hit far more vehicles (increasing Looey’s stress levels) than you should.

There are, however, things which can help you. If you get the free version of the game you earn coins which you can invest in all kinds of bonus items. With the paid version you get a tasty 10,000 coins to begin with. These include some cool weapons, such as a laser which wipes out all cars in front of you, clearing your way. Others include speed boosts which help you get to your destination quicker.
All the action is a kind of comic book animation-style which is pretty cool. The game’s menus and other screens have real polish and the game itself is a perfectly casual little distraction that provides a rather intense few minutes of gameplay each time you load it up. I do feel it’s let down slightly by the controls, if they were tweaked the game would be far more playable.

Fun Factor:
When you manage to complete a level, keep Looey cool and still get to use brilliant weapons to wipe out other road users, it’s altogether lots of fun. I think your own head might explode after too much playing so I’d definitely put it in that ‘casual’ bracket of games that give you short bursts of fun rather than the immersive titles you can’t put down.
Addictive:
I think if you are able to play Left Lane Looey Road Rage Racing frequently and often, it could certainly be something you find addictive.
Graphics:
The graphics are really well designed and Looey himself is a great character. The other road users come in all types- slow moving trucks, women applying lipstick, little old ladies and more.
Accelerometer, Vibration & Sound:
The sound is good, without being great. There is music, sound effects and while the score works well with the game, it’s not on par with the graphics and animation.
