Kaiten Email is a one-stop client for all your inboxes Install

Kaiten Email is an advanced email client for Android. Based on the award-winning K-9, Kaiten has been completely redesigned to look gorgeous on your tablet. (It looks pretty snazzy on your phone too.)

Price: $4.99

Tested on: Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1
Content Rating: Everyone

AndroidTapp.com Android App Review:

Pros & Cons:

Pros

  • The client supports all the common email types!
  • You can have multiple inboxes, making it much easier to keep track of several accounts at a time!
  • The back-end is based on the popular K9 client, with a redesigned interface for ease of use!

Cons

  • You still need all the account details to add a new inbox.
  • Message List doesn’t thread – so if you have a long stream of emails with one person, they all show up as individual entries.

Features:

Kaiten Email takes the popular third-party email client for Android, K9 Mail, and gives it a new, easier to use interface that brightens up the whole experience.

One of the great things about Kaiten is that, like K9, you can add as many accounts as you’d like, and it allows for all the popular email client types, such as POP3 and IMAP. It also allows you to add Exchange accounts, which is a big deal if you have a corporate email address you’d like to be able to check on the go. You can also add Gmail accounts to it, so instead of having several places to go to check your email, you can have one place to see all your various work and personal accounts. I like that you can view them separately, or if you’d like to just see all your incoming mail in one place, you can view it together as well, making it useful for a variety of ways people like to manage email.

One of the few downsides of Kaiten Email is the way it handles multiple messages in a conversation. As you can see in the screen shots, Kaiten treats each new message as an individual item, instead of threading them together; so as you can see, if you’re having a long conversation, it can dominate your list very quickly.

Usefulness:

If you have multiple accounts, this app is a lifesaver. There is nothing worse than having to go into multiple programs to check for new emails and respond to them. I really like that you can choose to see a combined view, such as when you’re working and want to keep track of everything, or just view certain accounts on their own – such as on the weekend when you don’t want to see work email.

Ease of Use:

If you’ve used K9 to set up email accounts before, then this will be very familiar to you. You do need to know how to find and set up email credentials – while it will search, I’d say 95% of accounts won’t automatically pick up the right settings, you’ll have to adjust them. That’s not unique to Kaiten though, so it’s not unexpected. Once you have the account added and set up, however, the app is very easy to use and manage.

Frequently Used:

If you’re an email junkie like me, you’ll be in and out of this app all day every day. It will cut down on having to switch between multiple programs to check different account types, which is nice though.

Interface:

The interface is where Kaiten really shines. It’s clean and easy to use, and there are a ton of options to get it set up exactly how you want it. You can even color-code different accounts to make it easier to see at a glance which one is which. I don’t like that it doesn’t thread messages, since it means I have a much more cluttered message list, but that’s about the only down side.

Should you Download Kaiten Email? If you manage multiple email accounts, then this is an app you need. It does require some technical know-how to set up, like any email client, but it is a powerful and useful tool to make checking your mail a much easier and smoother process.

I have 3 gmail accounts and like Kaiten more than gmail. There is one thing I don’t understand though. I would like to not retrieve mail from one account when I am at home. I can’t figure out how to do this. In gmail., I just turn on/off sync mail. How can I do that in Kaiten.
