With everything that is horrible in the world, mobile news saves the day with this colossal game changing decision. As we all know Apple has had strict and tight rules over their app store, making it hard for some apps to ever see the light inside of Apple’s app store. A decision made by the Library of Congress in addition with the U.S. Patent Office has changed all of this and Apple’s hands are tied with the ruling.

The ruling paraphrased states that Apple or any other carrier, or handset maker can no longer tell you that downloading apps outside of their legal and regulated territory is illegal. The ruling also is states that carriers can no longer bind the phone to the account after the account is closed, for example take Sprint’s ESN bill binding. When a phone has been shut off due to non-payment it has been common practice for Sprint not to turn on that phone unless the bill attached to the ESN was paid. This is no longer acceptable and quite frankly to me should have been common sense.

Rooting you Droid device although not suggested is now not frowned upon and is expected to increase the type and amount of apps that are available for the market. Have fun and thanks Library of Congress, way to stick it to Apple.
