Pros & Cons:
Pros
- Nicely designed graphics with sharply animated opponents!
- Multiple punches!
- Perfect learning curve!
Cons
- Sometimes gets a little sluggish.
- There’s the ability to block, but it would be nice to see a dodge feature too.
Features:
International Boxing Champions is a boxing game for Android. Take on increasingly competitive challengers in one-on-one fights. You control your fighter by combining six different punches; straight, hook and body punches. There are forward and backward movements and you can easily block with a dedicated button. I think for the game to be a tad better it would be good to be able to dodge punches, but the blocking is very effective nonetheless.
The game comes with a Gym mode- which essentially teaches you the basics of punches, combos and free training. Then there is also a Grudge Match mode where you can fight combatants you have already beaten in one-off contests. There is then a Championship Mode where you fight one boxer after another, unlocking each for the Grudge Match mode and earning money as you progress.

Money can be spent on ability upgrades, or you can make in-app purchases to boost these and add to your speed, power, defense, health and recovery. Any purchase you make dispenses with the in-game advertising which, as it is of the banner variety is pretty annoying. You also need to purchase your way to unlocking combo moves. These are phenomenally expensive and unless you spend many, many hours playing, you’re going to have to dip into your wallet for.
The graphics for the boxers in the game are superb. Each fighter is incredibly detailed and this continues in the boxing ring. The environments and the menu systems are a little drab, but the detail involved in each boxer is excellent. Overall it’s a smart game that would perhaps be bettered if there was a proper paid-for version or some of the features were not as out-of-reach unless you make purchases. Still worth having a go at as it’s certainly as engaging and fun as similar games I have played.

Fun Factor:
International Boxing Champions is fun and the battles are quite exciting. The controls are easy to understand and, with such a wealth of different punches, it’s tactical and engaging. I did find it sometimes can feel a little sluggish when punches are being exchanged and not as responsive as it perhaps could be.
Addictive:
I wouldn’t say it’s massively addictive, but it keeps you engaged while you play. Matches do not last all that long so it’s actually a great game to play on a casual basis.
Graphics:
For me the graphics are kind of split into two parts. On the one had you have the fighters themselves whose are gloriously animated and look rich and detailed. While their movements aren’t altogether natural, they look superb. Then you have the menu system, shop and other interfaces. These are so-so. While there’s nothing wrong with them per se, they are relatively average compared to other games. That said, you’ll spend most of the time in the ring, so this isn’t too big a deal.
Accelerometer, Vibration & Sound:
The sound is good, atmospheric and the menus offer an up tempo music track which works well with the game.
