After a lengthy wait, Instagram for Android is now finally available in the Google Play Store. While Android users have perhaps looked enviously at their iPhone toting pals when it comes to quite simply the most popular photo-sharing tool known to humankind, the time has come to get a share of the fun.

description: Instagram – A beautiful way to share your world. It’s fast, free and fun!
Pick from one of several gorgeous filtered effects to breathe a new life into your mobile photos. Transform everyday moments into works of art you’ll want to share with friends and family.
Share your photos in a simple photo stream with friends to see – and follow your friends’ photos with the click of a single button. Every day you open up Instagram, you’ll see new photos from your closest friends, and creative people from around the world.
Featuring a slew of customised filters and borders, the ability to share across multiple social networks and the all-important social element where you can comment and like friends pictures, is all present and correct. Perhaps beyond what is expected of the app, Instagram themselves have suggested that the Android version is actually superior to the iPhone app so it could well be we’ll have something to be rather smug about!
I still think a big question remains as to whether we need Instagram at all. While this will be downloaded heavily on the Android platform- probably into the millions before very long, the jury will be out as to whether the likes of Lightbox Photos and Streamzoo are actually better apps. We’ll be testing Instagram to death over the next few days so expect a detailed review soon.
