Features:
Inotia3 Children of Carnia is an excellent Fantasy RPG for Android in the style of Zenonia and Zelda! Inotia3 features a party system for questing and combat, customizable skill trees, the ability to perform multiple quests at once, excellent graphics, customizable controls, and it’s free!
The story begins with an Unknown Character in a village that is taken over by evil demons and imps. This Unknown Character is searching for his sister that was captured by the evil hordes. You engage in combat with the demons and defeat them only to discover that your sister has been turned to the dark side and is now trying to kill you. All of a sudden your character is taken through a bright light and a woman appears, but says nothing. Then the main character of the game, “Lucio,” awakens in the forest. From what I have seen it appears this initial battle is a foreshadowing of what is to come for young Lucio in the future.
As the hero you will begin to perform basic quests in order to prepare for your coming of age ceremony to prove your manhood. The first quest takes you through collecting deer pelts and then you will make your way to the village in order to obtain new quests and party members. One of the unique things in this game is that all party members are fully playable and controllable by the player. One of my complaints about another game with a party system, Cyberlords – Archology, was that the party controls would not allow you to fully control each hero as if it was your own. Inotia3 does an excellent job giving the player full control over all the players movement, attacks, and skill sets. As you progress further and further through the game you will gain more party members to choose from and you can have two other players in your party at any time.
The questing system is excellent. You are able to collect multiple quests at once and all of the quests seem to be grouped in similar areas. So if you collect five quests in the starting village they will all take place in the same area. After completing those five quests you will collect five more in a new area, but all grouped within that single new area. This is a big improvement to Zenonia 2, where I felt that many of the quests were in completely opposite directions, and so I became easily bored of performing the quests because it took too much of my time.
Featuring an excellent skill system, you are able to learn multiple usable attacks and magical spells in one skill tree, and get multiple passive improvements to your character in another. You can also swap out which spells are easily accessible through your spell book so that you have easy access to all of your most powerful spells at once. This allows you to fully customize your character to fit your play style.
Speaking of customization, Inotia3 has an excellent system of equipping your character with items. The system is extremely similar to that of World of Warcraft. You are able to carry sixteen items initially, but you can collect bags in order to store additional equipment. There are eight slots for your hero to equip various items, and best of all your hero’s appearance actually changes based on the gear he is wearing. This may not seem like a big deal, but many incredible games like Dungeon Defenders can’t even get this simple mechanic right. If your hero changes gear his appearance should change as well. In Inotia3 they get this right and your hero’s appearance will change for every piece of new gear he puts on. In a renowned game like Dungeon Defenders the only pieces of equipment that changes your hero’s appearance is his weapon and his pet.
Finally, Inotia3 also features customizable controls system where you can position the virtual thumb sticks and in-game controls anywhere on the screen through the game’s settings. Unfortunately, this game does not support the physical controls of the Xperia Play. Hopefully, this will be fixed with future updates, because this it would appeal greatly to users of this game centered phone.

Fun Factor:
Inotia3 Children of Carnia was extremely enjoyable. The party based combat system gave you more control over the heroes in your party then other similar RPGs. The skill trees were easy to understand and allowed perfect customization of your hero in order to match your specific style of combat. I also found that the arrangement of the quests was more linear than other competing RPGs as well, which encouraged me to spend more time playing the game, because I was not becoming frustrated due to quests at opposite points of the map.
One minor complaint I have in the fun factor department is the advertisements. They appear whenever you enter or leave a zone and are extremely large and annoying. I would love to see a paid version of this application without the ads and with support for hardware controls on phone’s with a keyboard or control pad like the Xperia Play.
Addictive:
I found Inotia3 to be more addictive than the average Android RPG. The graphics, soundtrack, and gameplay all meshed together extremely well to create an ideal gaming experience. Even though I am not someone who usually prefers playing RPGs on my Android device I could see myself playing through this game in its entirety if they were to incorporate Xperia Play controls, and possibly even if the developers didn’t.
Graphics:
The graphics for are not groundbreaking but are what you would expect from a Final Fantasy clone for Android. The animations are smooth and the customization of your character’s appearance through equipment is flawless. It is possible that this area of the application could be improved given the evolution of Android hardware over the past year, but there are still many legacy Android devices out there; so I think the fact that the developers left the game open to those with older devices is a positive thing and not a negative.
Accelerometer, Vibration & Sound:
Inotia3 Children of Carnia does not make any use of the accelerometer or of vibration, however it does have an excellent soundtrack. The game’s soundtrack and sound effects are very much in the style of the classic RPGs: Final Fantasy and Zelda. The music does an excellent job setting the mood for what is occurring in the game, and the sound effects are nostalgic in bringing back memories of playing Zelda on Gameboy or NES, If you liked the soundtrack in those games, you will likely love it in this game as well.
