iheartradio Android App is Clear Channel’s streaming radio station app for Android phones. Search, Favorite, Tag, Lyrics (if available), and Listen to local radio stations from around the country. Use the Randomizer feature to randomly deliver a radio station for listening.
Gripe Alert: You can multi-task with iheartradio, however there is no icon in the notification window so you can easily return like other stream music Android apps. A work-around is to Longpress the Home button then select iheartradio. I also wonder why GPS toggles so frequently with the app as well.
iheartradio is great for listening to your favorite local radio stations when not near a radio like in the office, commuting or traveling.
There is painfully long connection and buffer time before any music starts with this app (3+ minutes in our evaluation). Many griped in the Android Market that it doesn’t work. Maybe more patience is needed… still it should not take that long to buffer. It was tested on 3G and Wi-Fi Internet connections. However when it is started, there is good audio quality and uninterrupted streams.
The user interface is sleek… very iPhone-like.. nice polish!

Should you Download iheartradio? Yes! Great for Radio listeners… Especially if you can Bare the Buffer wait!

iHeart Radio on the iPhone is fantastic; on my Nexus One it was fine until the recent update. Now it’s pretty useless unless you’re on WiFi. Half the time I start it, it won’t even get past the logo screen, kill it and try again, maybe it will start, maybe not. More patience might be in order, but ANY app that takes 3+ minutes to load on a 1 Ghz processor with a 3G connection is just plain BROKEN.
Just an FYI on the notification icon. There is actually an icon, but you have to hit the back button repeatedly after playback has started to have it show up. I emailed this info to the developer within days of initial release, along with other bugs. No response from them, and none of the issues have been addressed in subsequent updates. Marginally average app coupled with a terrible dev = epic fail.
…. and one more thing. I noticed the comment about great for commuting. I’m not sure if it’s just been me, but this app is even more unusable when moving, ie in a car. I’ve tried it and playback is much worse than when you’re stationary. Even if the app starts playback, it stops and starts playback constantly. I’ve heard it may have something to do with polling different towers, but this hasn’t been a problem using Pandora or AOnlineRadio.
I downloaded this app to my android and it worked the 1st time I did it but it kept starting over on the radio station I was listening to. In fact,it was playing things that I had already heard the Friday before. The next day I tried the app again and it has never streamed music again. It buffers forever and never plays the radio station. I agree it’s a failure and it shouldn’t take so long to start up.
i downloaded the app for my android and like some it worked ok the first time and now it sounds like an old record on a slow speed.. i doesn’t take long to buffer for me but i don’t like listening to music in slow motion
Thanx guys this is free & a lot better the ATT Radio.
I put this app on my motorola CLIQ… and it works… sort of. The sound quality is bad listening to talk radio, and the connect / buffering took almost 16 min today. Pandora radio steams much better… wish it would offer a chance to stream my favorite am station.
Same as above with the Android ???? Doesn’t work anymore.
This app has been a total disappointment. I used to have a Blackberry curve and the version for that phone worked reasonably well but now I have a Droid 2 (both on Verizon) and it’s constantly stopping and starting for no apparent reason. And that’s when I’m stationary, forget about using it in the car. Additionally, the app itself tends to freeze up requiring me to reboot my phone just to get it running.
Are you running a stock non-rooted version of the OS?
I don’t know what you mean by “stock non-rooted” but I’m using the latest version offered by Verizon. 2.3.20.A955.Verizon.en.US.
If you don’t know what I mean, then probably not.
I’ve heard of the issue before on specific devices. I tried finding a fix for it but was unable to find it. I’m going to email the developer and try to get an answer for you.
Thanks Jason! I hope they fix this as iHeartRadio has been my favorite app.
This app on verizon is almost worthless – sitting on my desk with 4 bars and the play is so choppy as to be unusable – when it does manage to play, it will lose the connection and not reconnect – until you close the app, re-open the app, and start over from the top – oh, and sometimes the only fix is to power off the phone.
I wish the creators of this crap would hire the pandora people – that software actually works.
I downloaded this app today for the HTC Hero and it is absolutely the pits. It did not take long to buffer, but it plays the station for 5 seconds and then cuts out for 5 seconds. And this is not a random every now and then event… every 6 seconds it cuts out for 5 seconds. It makes listening to music annoying and it is not better for talk either. I downloaded it to listen to my favorite morning show in a different state, but I will stick with Pandora.
Pandora is really cool i stick with that to.
Hey, what are some HIGH QUALITY music apps. I have MP3 music download and it has high ratings but the quality sucks….. HELP!
