I recently updated from the HTC Hero to the EVO Shift 4G, and the difference is astounding. The EVO Shift 4G has a much more responsive interface where menu and app transitions are smooth as silk. The screen is very sharp and the colors look fantastic. The 5MP camera is just fine for me; I’m not looking to become a photojournalist. Don’t have an opinion either way for the slide-out keyboard. It’s useful sometimes, but I’ve grown accustomed to using the on-screen keyboard so I find myself using it more.

My biggest complaint about the phone would be the placement of the volume up/down buttons, as I’m always hitting them by mistake when sliding out the keyboard, but I think I’ll get used to it. Also, I miss the trackball, which helped immensely if I needed to edit certain words by adding a letter or two, though the d-pad on the keyboard serves as a replacement to this function. Also don’t like how the d-pad doesn’t have an action or enter button in the middle… the design is a bit deceptive there.

The phone is still a great phone and I don’t know why folks are downing it already. My HTC Hero was easily the best phone I ever owned and used, and my EVO Shift 4G is just the same, but even better.
