HTC Droid Eris for Verizon Wireless

While launching the praised Motorola DROID, Verizon also launched the HTC Droid Eris (HTC Hero) with HTC Sense user interface adding an awesome customization to the Android OS. The only drawback I noticed was that this phone debuted with Android version 1.5 while DROID debuted with 2.0 and all other network carriers are running 1.6. This means DROID Eris is lacking Quick Search Box, VPN, new version of Android Market, among other features. However it’s noted that an over the air update will hit this phone soon!

um, i think those specs are wrong. 1) why would an HTC ship with MOTOblur? 2) the phone doesn’t have a slide out keyboard…

@Chris and @Ben Thanks for catching that, it was an error on our part. The phone specs and information is now corrected. ;-)

You published the specs for the the Motorola T-Moblie Cliq. It is not even close to the specs for the Droid Eris. The Eris is an HTC product and being such comes with HTC’s own SenseUI, much like the HTC Hero. Motoblur is a product of Motorola and is shipped on Motorola products, not HTC. In fact, Verizon doesn’t even carry a Motoblur product yet, but rumors are that it will in the first quarter of 2010.

You don’t need V Cast. All the apps are basically free. And if not free, then CHEAP. Everything that had to do with V Cast is out the window involving this phone, wouldn’t you agree?

I can’t figure out how to get ahome for my phone. I searched the market, and scanned the barcode on this website. Very frustrating.

Click these links on your Android phone:

      Paid App: market://search?q=pname:mobi.bbase.ahome

      Free App: market://search?q=pname:mobi.bbase.ahomelite

Those links won’t work for me, and it says aHome lite won’t work for the Eris?

Just got my ERIS from Verizon. I’m not an expert on using this droid phone by any means, so I’ll be asking lots of questions.

Is there an app that can change the digital clock on the home screen, or is there already something built into the phone in order to make a change?

    Thanks.

On the home screen, press the + option (next to “phone”), click HTC Widget, then click clock. You can scroll left and right to select a new clock style.

I’ve had my Eris for about 2 weeks now and I’m dying to know if there is some way to change the ringtone for text messages? I figured out how to change notification sounds but when I get a text it’s the same beeps. Any help???

Yes you can, download an app called Rings Extended, which will allow you to set ring tones for anything other than the beeping sounds, but opens this up to MP3s on your phone.

See this post http://www.androidtapp.com/new-to-android-welcome-to-android-advice/ #5 on how to do it ;-)

      Hope that helps!

well, i was going to let my mom buy the droid eris phone for me and i just wanted to know whether or not the phone allows you to lock the screen when you are not using it

Yes! Either you can lock it or it locks on its own if you set it. You can even “Pattern Lock” similar to password lock the phone.

This is my favorite thing in the world right now. The Android version 1.5 was bothering me (there’s someone with a Moto Droid in my household and I was jealous.) I did install the official upgrade that hasn’t been pushed OTA yet and I love it even more now!! There is word that at the end of May this phone will be discontinued since the Incredible just arrived. Best Buy has it for $29.99 right now so if you were thinking about getting the Eris grab it now!

i have the htc droid eris and you can say i am a big fan, it’s durable, fun, and easy. its more durable then the iphone, and it has less glitch’s. it may not have the best battery life, but it truely is a great phone with great features. i highly recomend. five stars *****

i am trying to change text ringtones and notificaton ringtones, i cant figure it out?

@brittany Typically you can open your Messaging app and go to Settings, find Notifications and Ringtones in that menu to change. However these will be only simple ringtones that come with your phone. If you’d like MP3′s stored on your SD Card as tones you would need an app Rings Extended for that.

I’m disappointed with Verizon. My Verizon Droid Eris is still under warranty, less than a year old, and I found out that they are no longer making them and will not be supporting them with any additional upgrades. If I had known that, I would not have bought the phone to begin with. I liked the lighter and less bulky size, compared to the Motorola Droid and I did not need a slide out keyboard. I was told by the sales person that all the updates applied to the Moto Droid would eventually be applied to the Eris Droid. I think that is bait and switch. Verizon should make all Eris owners whole by offering us another phone if we want one. If I stay angry enough I may just switch to iPhone for my next phone.
